I have just seen the logo for the London 2012 Olympics and... well... look for yourselves. ::)

This has to be the dullest, most hideous logo in ages, but what really shocked me was the price tag: 400,000 pounds. :-X
Corruption? Bad taste? or am I just too blind to see its worth?
My what a hideous logo.
It actually burns my eyes.
hmmm I'm willing to make a better logo for only 40,000 pounds ;D
That really is a fugly logo.
That is hideous.
The worst logo in history of the Olympics maybe?
It's ridiculous!
This was better:

I'm sure we all could have came up with better logos when we were ten years old! That really is crap. Also very eighties wack-a-day kiddy bollocks, or something.

Also available in blue:

Well, it did get this on tv. :D

Yeah, the logo is crap, and the animated version is even crappier. They were forced to remove the animated ad from the web, for fear that it might cause seizures. I bet the designer just scribbled something in panic in the evening of the last day before the deadline :).
The more I look at it, though, the more I get the feeling that the logo doesn't really matter. Also, who was the designer? This is like career suicide or the opposite.
Ugh... Ok, I see yellow and whats that other colour? Red? No. Purple? No. Eyecatching indeed, next time they should use blood and a penis for the logo, that would be even more eyecatching.
Designers world is so fake in todays world. I remember when they did a logo for Estonian capital Tallinn, they used a city silhouette that was copied right off from the well-famous canned fish label. Shure it cost alot, but there is no doubt it was just scanned and copied, people started asking afterwards where are the newer buildings in the silhouette... That leads me to conclusion that every designer must attend somekind of art school first, like drawing, so they could learn how not to be so lazy.

Actually, as far as I understood, there were actually 8 people who got epileptic seizures from it.
Does anyone see the girl kneeling down about to do something to that guy? ;D ;)
Its horrible, they could've came up with thousands of different and better designs than this.
Thanks Strazer :)

could have = could've != could of
Sorry, it's a common mistake but I had to point it out.
And yes, the logo is horrible.

I think the logo is wonderful and full of sense and meaning. It represents what the UK is known for:
... or something like that.
Personally; this is my favourite version of an alternative 2012 logo (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/6719747.stm)
the logo should be a rain cloud, it's gonna piss down during the olympics just like it did when they had the commonwealth games in manchester.
and i thought the 5 rings was already the olympics logo...
and £400,000 is about right, the UK is pretty much notorious for the outrageous amount of money it spends on new logos.
they really should just hold a national logo design competition, i'm sure they can get a hell of a lot better designs in 5 years.
My first impression was the word "ZION" spelled with SS runes, but I also see the woman (or man) giving head there now. ;D
There obviously was some outrage already, which I somehow managed to miss completely. The BBC Have Your Say on the topic had over 10,000 comments submitted. WOW. Not even the captured sailors have had that many. My favorite from the alternatives submitted there is this one. Simple, clever and above all recognizable.

I actually read it like "zoR" first.
But I've grown to ignoring it instead of not liking it.

Goatse anyone?
From Wiki:
One observer, a managing director of an advertising agency, noted that the logo bore a strong resemblance to the logo for children's television programme Tiswas, commenting that appealing to young people is difficult, and that they will see right through attempts to patronise them.
Early public reaction to the logo, as measured by a poll on the BBC Web site, has been largely negative: more than 83% of the first 16,000 votes gave the logo the lowest possible rating. Critics have claimed that the logo's graphics are out of date, and that the logo does not positively represent the city.
The logo has been quickly derided with an online petition for its replacement receiving 8,000 signatures within 2 hours of it being released on June 4...the petition was closed by its creator after 48,615 signatures in just two days...A counter petition for supporting the logo released on June 5 only received less than 70 signatures in about 24 hours, many of which were intended as a joke, according to the comments.
The free newspaper London Lite, in its 5 June edition, printed a text from a reader pointing out the resemblance of the logo to Lisa Simpson performing oral sex. Numerous sources reported similar remarks being posted on blogs or article comments, while other sources described it as resembling a "broken window", "hip-hop graffiti" and even a "distorted swastika".
A segment of animated footage released at the same time as the logo was criticised as viewing it had triggered seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. The charity Epilepsy Action received telephone calls from people who had had seizures after watching the film. In response, it was reported that London 2012 removed the offending segment of footage from its website. Ken Livingstone, the London Mayor, said that the company who designed the film should not be paid a penny for what he called a "catastrophic mistake".
Oops...
I remember some spokesperson on the news saying that "It's just a logo, you will get used to it."
I thought that was a pretty nice way of avoiding the issue but... hell, I know when I see Lisa Simpson sucking a Christmas Tree and I'm looking at it right now. In another tab, I'm also looking at the logo.
Badum tsssh.
I also have to say, vict0r's logo made me laugh out loud.
Does anyone remember Dogbert's Brown Ring of Quality? It's a Dilbert strip with roughly the same effect. Dogbert is hired to create a new corporate logo, so he sells them a coffee stain for a ludicrous amount of money.
I agree that logo sucks! Whoever chose that over all the other ones must be a bit "special".

That reminds me of this strip that one of my graphics design teachers had on her wall.

I agree, the logo is kinda crappy. I might like it more if it was a different shade, but as Flibble said, we'll all get used to it and learn to love it.

I died laughing...well done...
Erm... Victor didn't make that, silly people! I found it looking in the same places as him. That is all. Yes I do like correcting people, is that such a sin?
*runs*
Bugger off, ManicMatt. ;)
Heres my contribution. Oddly enough this isnt a photoshop. I keep photos of various games of Scrabble & Tangoes that I played throughout the 80's and 90s'. Seems Tangoes is a bit of a logo nostradamus!
