Look both ways before crossing the street.

In this last shot you can actually see the other guys rim embeded in my car on the bottom left side.

The air bags hurt like all hell and I got banged up a bit, but nothing too crazy. Lucky I suppose.

And Pesty.. I wasn't racing!

I was driving home, like normal, from work and a guy turning left on a side street (looking the opposite way) pulls out 10 ft in front of me. I didn't have enough time to even touch the breaks.. the next thing I know I'm still going heading into on coming traffic and my face is bleeding and... Fugazi was still bumping on my system.

He doesn't have insurance and I have 4 days to find a new car. YAY!

Woah, good thing you are still alive

But what is the car made of? That thing looks like melted plastic to me

auhsor

Ouch!! That does look painful, and I'm sure it was. Glad your ok though. I had an accident a bit similar to that a couple of months ago. I was turning into the driveway at work and another car came fast out of a different driveway and hit me. Technically it was my fault.

Reptile

Such a nice car. Hope you will find a new car soon.

In true chaotic fashion.. shortly after the wreck I was helping children out of a burning building.. More on that later.

The hood is completely metal, but otherwise it is metal and fiber glass.. I think the paint is what makes it look plastic. I WANT another Talon.. I would do anything to have my car back, but at the moment I'm scoping a celica.

Pumaman

Ouch, glad to hear you're ok. Will the guy pay you for the damage as he didn't have insurance, or have you got the double whammy of having to buy another car yourself?

Helm

that looks really bad. The car is totalled, right? Probably would cost more to fix it up than it would to buy another used one. Glad you're ok, sylph. But... burning building?

Glad to hear your okay man, I got into a wreck myself not too long ago...It made me stop and realize my own mortality, which is why I am no longer prowling the streets as a superhero....

Really though, my airbags didn't work during my wreck, I bounced all around the cab (no seat-belt) and was okay.....I've always thought I was kinda lucky for not getting a face full of exploding canvas...

Sylpher will probably be faced with the honor of either settling out of court for peanuts or attempting to sue the guy for everything he's worth and getting half (if he's lucky) of what the car is worth. It's the law that you must have insurance to drive in the US so basically everyone has it unless they're dirt poor and can't afford the minimum the law requires, so when you sue them there's not much to sue for. Such is what I was told in a business class I took about a year ago.. Sorry man.

It looks to me offhand that you could probably have that repaired by taking parts from the front end of another Talon. My car looked a little worse than that before it was repaired (bought it rebuilt). Should cost in the neighborhood of $1,500-2,500 in my unprofessional opinion. Maybe you could squeeze that much out of the guy who hit you after all.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

Surely he can just claim on his own insurance (the uninsured driver clause). Since he's not at fault, it shouldn't (hah!) affect his premiums.

Sylpher, I feel you, I got into a wreck this last wednsday and my car is probably going to viewed as totalled, since it's so old. It was my fault...but not due to reckless driving. I was going to school in the morning and on the way there, there's a bad spot where the sun shined right into your eyes, so I was blinded, slowed down, but by the time I could see again, there was a car in front of me.

Turns out it was an off duty police officer. Which is actually good news, because he knew I wasn't driving recklessly, So when we called a cop over to make a report, he knew the guy, and I luckily did not get a ticket. My insurance still has to pay for the damages, but there is no document  that says directly that it was my fault.

I actually didn't hit the guy hard, my airbags did not deploy. But cars now are built to crunch to absorb the impact, so had I been in an older car, it would have been a simple fended bender. But since it's not, I'll probably have to say bye to my car. His car only needed a new bumper. My engine isn't ruined, but I'd estimate 3,000 dollars worth of damage to the outside of the car, alone.

The only thing that really sucks about it, is I just got it's axil repaired two weeks ago. On a lighter side, though. My roomate made fun of me, and said he'd never been in an accident, so the next day someone rams into his car. He ate those words.

Of course, when all is said and done, as long as you survive, there's really not too much to complain about.

I'm glad to hear that you are okay.  Cars can be replaced, human lives cannot.

I have dual airbags in my 1997 chevy lumina, and i'm always afraid that they will go off even if i'm not in an accident.  But i guess airbags do save lives (unfortunatly have taken some too).

The only accident i was ever in was on the way to work.  I was stopped making a left hand turn and this very, very old gentleman smacked right in back of me.  He said he never saw me, i was like duhh, you're friggen 80 something years old.  It cost $3,000 to get my car fixed (which his insurance payed).  But to this day, i'm afraid it will happen again.

Sylpher

Thank you, everyone. I feel very fortunate to have walked away with only minor cuts and bruises. The frame was bent so the car is a total loss. It would cost at least twice as much as it is worth to fix and the insurance isn't going to bother. The bright side is my loan will be paid off in full so I am basically back to 0.

I went and looked at the Celica and it is very nice. My friend argues it is better then the Talon, but I loved my Talon.

As far as the burning building goes. Riding in the tow truck on the way to drop the car off at a friends house we see smoke rising in the air up ahead. We get up to where the smoke is an a house is burning and no cops or nothing is around. The tow truck guy and I hop out and run over to the house pulling people out and moving cars and knocking on doors while shit is exploding and caving in. Fire department shows up and police.. we tell them what we saw and did and take off back to my friends house.

Interesting day? I think so...

Mills.. your insurance should give you the option to keep the car and they will deduct it from your settlement. It may be more worth it to have the car paid to be fixed then getting a whole new car... if the damage is less then what you owed on it.

I didn't even think to ask if you were racing, or I would've said something when you texted me. I WAS going to make a joke about you going to fast, but I didn't because I'm not totally heartless!

Seriously, I did mean to ask if this was the car you had just recently bought but then I remembered you didn't have another car, so I assumed it was. That's a major bummer, but at least you're not hurt too badly. Sure your Talon is crunched, but you can always get another car. Maybe you'll find an affordable CRX and then you can cruise around blaring Billy Squier. That would be awesome!

Yikes, holy crap! That's some serious wreckage! Glad to hear you're okay, though.

And the burning building... Wow, you were totally Mr Action that day!
