Thanks! This is so Desktop Roger can search through all the AGSers in an onlnie list. When you type, for example, "go username" it will bring you to, say, http://www.usernamewebsite.co.xyz. Typing in just the username will list their name, email, and URL.

I almost forgot about the addition of a "seen" command. From now on, Roger will keep track of when you last logged on to Desktop Roger and this info will be available to all others.

Downloaded v0.3a and opened it but it came up with an error saying that a dll was missing. I downloaded ver b and copied the dll into the ver a folder and it worked right.

It seems that you forgot to add the dll in that version.

That's very strange. I checked the files online and they match up with what I have on my hard drive, which have the DLL file, uncorrupted and unscathed. Maybe you should trty it again? Version A has a transparent background, which might look better. BTW, I got your message!

I'm so excited that something I made actually works. LGM brought up some interesting ideas.

- have Roger keep a log of all incoming messages in case you couldn't read it all in the time given by ROger. I know he has that time limit thing based on the length of his messages. it's the only way...

- Keep a list of registered users. That I already do...but Roger should check that list when sending a message and reject the sending of it if the username given does not exist in the list. This would prevent spamming the message queue with junk messages.

I am still planning on integrating BlueCup and her actions/features/commands into Desktop Roger. I am going to do a few test renders of different concept models for BlueCup along with Helm's original drawings of her, to see if they look OK. I'm going to ask you guys to judge them and tell me what you think....or actually...that's what the C&C forum is for....

Thats strange. I download it again and the dll is there. I'm at school at the moment and with both versions give the same error message as before, but that might be because of a firewall or something like that. I'll have to check it out at home

v0.4 changes: BlueCup is here! Also, if you type in "go" then almost any AGSer's screen name or IRC nick, then you will be taken to his/her home page. This only works for most of the elder AGSers (and myself, of course) for now. To get BlueCup, type in "switch" or "BlueCup". For Rog again, type "switch" or "Roger".

This is a good idea for an introduction to my documentation for Desktop Roger...

Well, if you've ever been to the #ags IRC chatroom, Roger and BlueCup are two bots there. Roger at one point was constantly absent, so I decided to make a desktop version of him, modeled after the AGS default character sprites. BlueCup is modeled after Helm's drawings of her.

How exactly does this thing connect to the net? Because it can't seem to load the list of user names (well, it hasn't found it yet, and I've been waiting quite a while...) I'm connected over a LAN, if that changes anything.

Hmm, well it connects through FTP to my web site and downloads a very small file from there. Maybe you have to have Administrator priveleges to use Desktop Roger? I'm not sure about LAN's.

Here comes version 0.5! After this,  I'm adding in a TVGuide function as well as other things like maybe translate, weather, news, random famous quote, etc.

I just basically fixed the responses and any typos in the code like the problem with "go quotes"

...hmm i'm getting a run time error 55: File already open. I tried it again and found that my usernase was already taken. Probably from an earlier version.
I try again with a diffferent username and i get the error again. strange.

There's a quality program to help create batch files called Easy Batch Builder.  You can find it at www.octosoft.co.uk.

Auhsor:  Did you unzip DeskRog to the same folder as the older one(s)? If not, it will not find the data file where it keeps your user name. And the names you then choose might already be taken. If you want,  I can erase your name manually from the online list so you can sign on with it again. if you still get this problem though, let me know so I can see what might be the problem.

James:  Thanks, but I'm going to use an installer, like InnoSoft (?) in the near future.

no it wasnt in the same directory. i didnt think it had to be. the readme file should be updated also. I'll check it out when i get home.
