Hi folks!
I hope you can help me out with a little problem. I have been searching for the lyrics of the "Asterix in Britain" movie title theme for days, unfortunately to no avail. The song is basically the same as "Astérix est là ", but it has this fancy Beatles-style arrangement and a different text.

Now - we'd love to play this song in our band, but as a foreign listener I have not been able to work out the lyrics on my own. I guess the singer has some sort of British accent (I heard they hired a Beatles cover band for that one), so I thought some of you could help me on my way to finding the lyrics.
Hey, it will be FUN and all! :D

Here's what I've got so far, mostly for your amusement and to show that I have invested at least some work myself:

---

The lookout is out
let out of it, shout, maybe we're all at tea (?)
there's room for more
the room is [...], it just won't work with me
it's a-mission time (we'll talk about it later)
while I play [...] (just sit back)
watch the story [...] (we've all been told to go now)
so the ticket back is blackjack

It's anybodys deal, lets try a new reel
and maybe something I've gonna [...]
the [...] is now on you, lets try something new
and maybe someone can turn a new wheel

the lookout is out
let out of it, shout, maybe we're all at tea (??)
fade out on the moon
its a-soon to tell, it just won't work with me
expedition time (we'll take [...])
try another line (it's allright)
seek a different [...] (we'll sing a song about it)
things will be just fine, there's no fight <-- that one might be correct :)

It's anybody's deal, let's see how you feel
and maybe something, I've [...]
the [...] is now on you, let's try something new
and maybe someone can turn a new wheel

----

I'm not too pleased with myself, honestly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BerserkerTails

Hmmm, I took a shot at it.

The lookout is out
Let all of them shout, maybe we're all at tea
There's no room no more
The room is berserk, it just won't work with me

It's a-mision time
While I play in...? [It sounds like Mine, or Mind]
Watch the story fold
So the ticket back is blackjack

It's anybody's deal, lets try a new reel
And maybe something, I've got a hunch
The [Crutch or Crunch] is now on you, lets try something new
And maybe someone can turn a new wheel

Hope that helps... Still a few I'm uncertain about.

Greg to the rescue! Er... well, I can help out.

The part I'm not sure about is in bold. All the rest of it I'm pretty certain about.

-------------

doot, doo doo doo dooooooo... etc.

The lookout is out
let out a big shout, maybe we're all at tea
There's no room no more
The room is berserk, it just don't work with me

It's a mission time (we'll talk about it later)
while I play you mine (just sit back)
watch the story fold (we've all been taught to go now)
sold a (or "show the") ticket back, he's black jack
(or mayhaps "so let's take it back, he's black jack")

it's anybody's deal
let's try a new reel
and maybe something
I've got a hunch

with crutches now on you
let's try something new
and maybe someone
can turn a new wheel

doot, doo doo doo dooooooo... etc.

The lookout is out
let out a big shout, maybe we're all at tea
fade out on the moon
it's too soon to tell, it just won't work with me
it's petition time (we'll take a banishment)
try another line (it's all right)
seek a different route (we'll sing a song about it)
things will be just fine, there's no fight

it's anybody's deal
let's see how you feel
and maybe something
I've got a hunch

with crutches now on you
let's try something new
and maybe someone
can turn a new wheel

doot, doo doo doo dooooooo... etc.

Wow, thanks a lot to both of you!
This is a big step forward, although large parts of the text still don't quite reveal their sense to me  :)
But hey - I absolutely love the vocal part of that song, and I suppose it'll be a great practice.

While I mostly agree with Geoffkhans version, there's a few lines I hear differently:

it's petition time (we'll take our punishment) <- Not that that makes any more sense
try another line (it's all right)
seek a different rhyme (we'll sing a song about it) <- Is a better, well, rhyme
things will be just fine, there's no fight

And, to me, "maybe we're all at tea" sounds more like "maybe we're all at sea" - although from what I remember of Asterix in Britain, either would fit.
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

Yeah, it could be "we'll take our punishment" but it sounds like a "b" sound in the last word, which is why I thought it was "banishment."

I think you're right about the "seek a different rhyme", there's just a hint of a "m" sound at the end of the last word, and definitely no "t" sound that would suggest "route." :)

But it's definitely "we're all at tea." :)

Ashen

Well, "at sea" makes more sense, if you think of 'lookout' in terms of 'crows nest', and 'all at sea' -  as a phrase - can mean something like lost or confused, which sort of fits with "The room is berserk, it just don't work with me". Also, isn't a 'reel' ("it's anybody's deal/let's try a new reel") a nautical tune or dance? Or am I reading too much into that? On the other hand, while I can see 'Britain = tea', "all at tea" doesn't seem to fit in with any of the rest of the song.

That was my thinking, anyway. I've now listened to it so many times it sounds like "We're all itchy", so I could well be wrong. Not that it matters, really, I'm just a pedantic git at times.
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

Just listened to it again and found a huge mistake we've been missing!!

"It's a mission time" is actually "It's admission time". That makes much more sense with the whole tickets and what not.

I also here "Let's take our punishment" not banishment.
I make music.

Yeah

I was hearing something different at that part, too! At first I thought it said "It's emission time", but "admission time" sounds right. I don't think it's "it's-a mission time." :)

ThunderStorm

Yesterday I started that 1000 pieces StarWars puzzle game, and I can't help but seeing a certain analogy  :)

Ashen: I thought "let's try a new reel" meant a film reel, as in "here's that new Asterix movie". Not sure though.

Thanks again to all of you helping. And don't you think that this song has something to it? Some kind of charm that "Asterix est là " doesn't even halfway reach?

Oh, and I'm curious: I'm not sure about that Beatles cover band thing anymore. Can anybody tell if this is really the kind of accent you would find in the Liverpool area?

Ashen

>> I thought "let's try a new reel" meant a film reel,

You're probably right - I kind of fixated on the 'sea' theme, and was clutching at straws a bit.

>> Can anybody tell if this is really the kind of accent you would find in the Liverpool area?

With some authority, I can say "Not really", but it's more difficult to tell with singing than with speech. There're a few odd words that sound more 'Beatles-y' than others, but it's not really a Liverpool accent, no. Bare in mind - 'Beatles cover band' doesn't have to mean they're actually from Liverpool, so they could still be one. I don't really see (hear?) it myself, though.

At first I thought instead of "let's try a new reel" it was "let's try and be real"

Nightshade

Allright here's a  more accurate version

I have to say that Im experienced at listening to and writing lyrics and this is one of the hardest one I ever did, I feel every singer should put in his teeth and take out the hot potato before getting in front of a mike but hey....I mean really these guys make ACDC sound easy to figure out for crying out loud.

Toot-too doo doo doo,
Toot-too doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo
Toot-too doo doo doo,
Toot-too doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo

The lookout is out,
Let out a big shout maybe-we're all a team.
There's room no more,
The room is beserk- it just wont work with me

Intermission time(we'll talk about it later)
While I play in mind ( just sit back)
watch the story fold(we'all been told to go now)
So the ticket back is black jack.

It's anybody's deal, let's try in the reel and maybe something-I've got a hunch
The crunch is now on you, let's try something new, and maybe someone -could turn the wheel.

Toot-too doo doo doo,
Toot-too doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo
Toot-too doo doo doo,
Toot-too doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo

The lookout is out,
Let out a big shout maybe- we're all a team.
Fade out on the moon,
It's too soon to tell, it just wont work with me.

It's petition time(you take our punishment)
Try another line( it's allright)
Seek a different rhyme(we'll sing a song about it)
Things will be just fine there's no fight.

It's anybody's deal, let's see how you feel and maybe something- I've got a hunch.
The crunch is now on you, let's try something new, and maybe someone could  turn  the wheel.

Explanations:
1-we're all a team - they just pronouce so badly the M falls to the floor before it reaches the mike but its meant to be there trust me.
2-there's room no more, the way they pronouce again both badly and to fit the tempo it really just goes from there'e to room without anything between they just fake a sound there a lot of bands do that, same happens at turn the wheel.
3- While I play in mind : to visualise your play in your mind before actually commiting a course of action on the board.
4-YOU take our punishment, thats the petition, the same way the roman soldiers always petition NOT to go vs the gauls lol.

Oh and yeah it is CRUNCH and NOT grudge , the crunch is on you as in a mix of the ball is in your camp and you are the one about to get the shaft at the same time :)

Im 99% sure of the accuracy there are a few parts that are so badly sang that we cannot be sure unless we get the lyrics directly from Jeff Jordan himself lol-the band cook da books sang it but the song was written by Vladimir Cosma (music) and Jeff Jordan (lyrics)

Hope you guys are happy with with it:)
My email is dadadadididi@hotmail.com if you have anymore challenges I could help with, specify in mail title that you need help with a song I get lots of spam mail. 8)

Andail

Well I'm glad we could finally get some closure on that one
