Fairly recently I have been thinking of joining.

Btw: This is not a plea for some ags members to join me.
I simply would like to know, Do they work?  Do they prove good results?
A couple of days ago, in Mirc I posted a couple of my best work to ildu, Tuomas, and Bunnymilk...

One image (.GIF)
One Tune (.MP3)
And a story I took about four minutes to write, although I had a basic plot idea to begin with...

But remeber, these files only represent what I can do.
The images, music and story line are only pretend.

But after seeing what I've made, the question is:

Would you want me in your team?

If not, or if so... please tell me
and please if you would be so kind as to crit as best as you can.
So I know what to work on in the future. :)

Cheers,

Pmdee

Team creations: Do they work?

Yes, you just need a good team leader and a motivated team.

Well, you did exactly give a whole lot to go by. You have one simple drawing of a window and the link to the mp3 doesn't work. So, is this a serious post/question or is it supposed to be a joke. (I'm not trying to be insulting here, sorry if I am)
Thewalrus

Goo, goo, ga, joob!!!

"Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come!"

Tuomas

It's not a joke, I can tell you that. We've been doing some research at #AGS and oh well, we came up with a collection of rules and some vision and so on. Be aware that I'm not in the team though, no time...

thewalrus

But you sure have time to go see Jethro Tull..... (you lucky SOB) J/K

The AoK team has been (and still is) an awesome experience for me!  We've been (meaning me mostly) a little under-productive recently but we're all still gung-ho to go!

If you get the right team together, then yes, it's an awesome thing.  I reckon you put together that wrong team it could be a bad experience.  The thing to remember is that nobody is getting paid for it ... and as such aren't 'required' to work on it.  Go into it knowing that ... and you shouldn't have too many disappointments.

Tuomas

I also am making my game, and appointed my brother to do some of my backgrounds because I'm quite hopeless with them, well not that, but I'm not used to doing them, let's say clueless. Anyway, I've been waiting for the bg from him for a while now, since not having it is keeping me back too. Not that I couldn't do anything by myself, but the effort of others affects on the others, so basically if you get a team that is motivated, thy motivate each other. On the other hand, no-one is  alone in a team, so if the others don't do anything, why would the others then. I'm so going to link this one to my brother. I understand he's busy, but so am I.I'd just like to get a GiP thread done, and the project in publicity.

Ishmael

Simple. They work if you have a working team.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

<Calin> Ishmael looks awesome all the time

That explains FoY's problems ;)

In all honesty there needs to be a lot of prequirements met:

i. All members must have some faith in the project
ii. All members must actually et something out of it, whether this is experience, fun, or money
iii. all members must respect each other, and eahc others work (different things).
iv. The head of the project needs to know a lot about promotion and organising and marketing actually. Imainge spending too much time ot a projetc which the head decideds only to promote inthe AGs forum. Not enough some times. There are million ways to get a project going. Not only AGS.
v. There needs to be a head in the project for whom there is respect, and there needs to be a reason why this person is the head.

I'm currently ivolved in 2 projects which contain a "team".

ATOTK and The Forgotten Element.

I repsect each and every single one of the members in both teams.

In ATOTK, Radiant, Fizzi and a couple of more members (din't know if you know them), have proven more than enouhg their belief in the project, Radiant has proven beyond any doubt his belief in it and also that he's a great guy! Period (nothing else that needs ot be said here for me. That's enough and I'm dead proud to be a part of this team). And did you know that the traielr from ATOTk has been downloaded more than 7,000 times? I mean that's a huge number to my books! That's something I'k proud of, even if the game is not yet released, and so are the rest of the team members

In The Forgotten Element, Lemmy and Binky, have been nothing less than brilliant! Understanding to the nightmares I've bene going through. Knowing that it is a free project and not minding stalling it for months. Creative and open minded to take in my evry suggestion. Tallented like hell! Promoting the project to every part of the internet univers (exaggeration). TFE has been 1st in the strategy informer chart for adventure games.

Meaning, I get tolal satisfuction from these two teams. People I can talk with adn actualyl meet (I've met Radiant, Lemmy and Binky and would love to meet the rest). An awesmoe portofolio! Experience. And in an extent moneyt (since the ATOTK intro music has single handed helped me to get 2 paid jobs...). What else can one asks?

On the other hand,

I've exchanged like 100 PMs with esper, and also done music for him, while he has alos helped me immensly in veyr tight schedgules (imagine correcting a 30 page word doc in 1 day... that kind of thing... and he pulled it off). Still no games to show with esper. Probably because there are still no artists in the team. But if esper comes and tells me that he has a good artist in the team, I will struggle very hard to say no (which means that 90% I will joing him ;))

Teams work as long as you're honest adn clear about what you want and need from others...

Princess Rosella

Probably the grandest team project is King's Quest IX, The Silver Lining.  Study their methods if you truly want to understand success for a fan game team creation.  BTW excellent door graphic, I'd say it's on par with esper's poetry.  ;D

Ubel

I agree with Nikolas' five rules. I'm working in a team... well, kind of. I'm working with Ishmael. A two-person-team. And I must say that at least in my opinion we have met all those requirements.

I'd say team creations do work if the team members are familiar with each other, and most importantly, understand each other's opinions about things. Also it's important that every member minds their own business. For example a background artist shouldn't go and tell the musician how to make music if the musician doesn't ask for this. If everyone takes care of their own tasks the team will work.

If you are interested in starting a team, start it with people you are very familiar with and who you trust.

Erenan

Letting each person mind his own business may or may not work. Each person may have a distinctly different vision of what the final product should come to be, and unless there is some communication between the team members about what direction in which the individual game elements should move, they may never come together in a satisfactory way.

Nikolas

Since we are discussing ideas about team creation, let me throw in one:

I have a story, which I've been told that is rather good (with some twists and so on), in the fantasy field (rpg)
I have a very strong idea on how I want the game to be.
I have most puzzles ready (and can come up with more)
I can certainly handle music and sfx.

I can't do graphics
and I can't do programing. (I was discsusing things with Rui, who had told me that what I want is possible... but can never be sure...)

would anyone volunteer for that places?

Don't want to put onlin the story, as it is full of spoilers, and as for the music I can do you probably know but anyways, check my website if you need to listen again.

Anyone interested? PM me :)
