Back in college I would stay up all night playing video games with my room mates. A fairly common thing. We would fuel our gameplaying with Mountain Dew. Also a fairly common thing. A lot of Mountain Dew. So much Dew, that one day, we decided to start building a wall out of our empties. A wall of Dew. A Mountain o' Dew, if you will.
By the time we were finished, it comprised of almost three thousand cans. We took lots of pictures, but they were all lost when one of my old hard drives went kaput.
But just today, my friend posted on his blog (http://blog.zszais.com) some pics that another of my friends managed to dig up from somewhere.
Behold, the wall! Note that it's two cans thick. (Neither of these people are me)

After these pics were taken, we added in a shelf that protruded out from the wall and could actually support books. Eventually, the wall was declared finished, and we started a pillar in the other corner of the room. Then on move-out day, we all sat in front of the wall and pulled it down on top of our heads and jumped around on the cans. It was really loud.
I've since kicked my caffeine addiction (though I still enjoy the occasional Dew).
I hope you enjoyed it!
I would be more impressed if they were beer cans. If those suckers had a deposit on them, you would be looking at a cool 150 dollars. :)
Shawn
btw I love mountain dew, but too much caffeine for me.
That is both hilarious and yet somehow disturbing ^_^.
It's strange--in Canada, Mountain Dew is caffeine-free. Though I think there's a new "Mountain Dew Red" (or something like that) that does have caffeine, and it's marketed as an energy drink.
Unfortunately, my state, Nebraska, does not have a deposit on cans, so when we took the whole thing in for recycling, we got a check for a whopping $25. :P
And I should point out that yes, we did take the time to turn every can to face the same direction... because we are sad, sad people.
I think I like you about 50% more just for knowing you made that. Maybe even 60%, I'm in a good mood today.
-Awesome-
How cool that you have the photo now. Make sure you don't lose it again!
EDIT: Oh, I have a question, sir. Did you wash all those cans before you made that? Rinse them out, like?
Why spend all that time drinking soft drink when Lincoln is so fascinating?
Kinoko: Yes, we washed them all out. It was an apartment (a pretty big one though) with four men living in it. We didn't need any more smells...
Las Naranjas: Actually Omaha, which is suprememly more fascinating than Lincoln...
ahh, the Warren Buffet factor?
Yeah, we just go hang at his house all the time. It's like MTV's Cribs, only older.
Holy freakin' God. I agree with Kinoko, my respect of you just went up about eightfold.
I know they used to sell Mountain Dew here, and they might still,
though i haven't had it in about 4 years.
Coincidently, my (Osakan) mistress attended UNL for 18 months. After a diversion here she decided to stay because of our interesting features like hills and plants other than corn.
I don't think mountain dew has been for sale in the UK for at least ten years if not longer. I miss the bitter sweet taste.
Also, why is cherry 7UP so rare to find? I lOVE that drink!
You're bitter about only getting 25$? I wouldn't have even thought you'd get any money at all! Be happy that you helped the environment. GO ON! BE HAPPY! NOW!
*Slurps his "Z" Dr Pepper*
Ha, I drink more 'dew than that on my own! I tried collecting the cans for recycling but there ended up being so many trashbags I just had to start chucking them. GO DEW, providing lazy Americans with energy since '48!
Kinda cool, but yeah, the quantity isn't very large at all. As 2004 Mittens attendees can attest, I probably drank more MD than that in a week (2 litre bottles though, not cans). I rue the day they stopped selling MD in the UK, I can only get my fix on my ~yearly visit to the US now :(
Or you could buy it online. Like i've been planning to for years.
AGA get yourself a contracting job on the nearest US military base...
All the MD you can drink...
Every week I buy 2 cases (48 cans) and I buy a 20oz bottle every day at lunch.
Alynn who is currently drinking MD in the UK :P
I dont know what they put in Mountain Dew Energy, but thats stuff is addictive, I drank one can, and I felt like I could run for miles, and when it burned off, I eanted more MORE! I haven't drunk one since, for safety reasons.

We have something similar here in the U.S., it's called Mountain Dew: Code Red. But's here, it's just plain old soda pop any way you look at it. IMO it doesn't really do anything for me, I'll stick with the yellow.
There's actually a few different flavors of Dew here, they have the orange Mt. Dew Livewire, the purple Pitch Black, the energy drink MDX, and I think at one time they even had a blue Mt. Dew. The only one of these I really cared for was the Pitch Black.
Man thats a kewl wall!
I also like it though Mr hydes beer can tiling is growing on me as iam sure it will if it was really in my house!
Btw ProgZ Just squish the can, (flat) and then chuck it in the bag unless you have done that already. And still ran out of space.
Hyde: Is that your place (or did you just find those pics floating around the internet somewhere?)? Man-o-man, that's scary!Ã, :oÃ, How would someone be able walk around that place (probably more like "swim around"), let alone live there? Heheh, so many cans ya can't see the floor, it even covers the stereo and TV.Ã, It's as if someone that lives there simply "lives to drink" (dare I say major "alcoholic"Ã, ;)Ã,Â
The only thing that comes in mind when seeing all these pictures (apart fomr disgust, sorry guys) is HOW MUCH? I mean can you calculate the ammount of cans *times* the price. It should be something like 1000x50 cents each = 5000$!
Well done! You've just wasted a car!
Other than that, most impressive wall Vince and most impressive floor (but difficult to cross) Domino... ;D
My addiction lies on chocolate, but I actualyl control it, up to a point.
But if you give me chocolate, I can't say no! It's impossible!
BTW, I don't smoke, drink, eat other sweets, or coffee. I'm free ofeverything. Except my own life!
Fifty cents a can? Try five.
I really like Pitch Black. Mixed with a RockStar, it could possibly be the best drink ever.
Anyone have a Bawls wall? :D
Actually, the Dew usually cost us 20 to 25 cents a can. Regardless, Nik, your math is a bit off. 1000 * $.50 = $500
So, our actual expenses were around 3000 * $.25 = $750. Not to mention that we weren't "wasting" the money. That was our usual Dew intake. We enjoyed the Dew!
And yeah, that beer thing is scary as hell.

Meh. I'm flattered, but no, that's not my place. 8) I got those pictures in an e-mail from a friend.
I guess some guy was renting the place, and he was very quiet and lived alone. He never complained or caused any problems, and was never late on his rent. But when he moved out... holy crap, were the landlords left with a surprise, I tell you what. I guess those pictures are NOTHING compared to what they found. They said they had found "tunnels" leading to the kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom.
Back on topic: $0.25 for a can of Mt. Dew? It's like, $1.00 here. Man, do I feel ripped off. And when you turn the cans in, you only get around $0.40-0.50 per pound. (A pound is usually a large garbage bag full.)
