I CAN'T GET ENOUGH MERLIN!!!!

Anyone else watches this show religiously? ;D
I'm usually a huge fan of Arthurian legends, but that guy's face is just so goofy, I haven't had the courage to watch it yet. ;D
Oh my gosh, I love this series! I promise you'll have a blast! :D
I quite like it, yeah, but i've missed a tonne of episodes. The two-part season finale was on here the other night so i'm eagerly awaiting the final episode. Let's see them get out of that one;-)
Oddly enough I started watching it today. Only finished the 2nd episode but so far it seems pretty entertaining although cheesy. Reminds me of Xena and Hercules.
There's another show that started the same time as Merlin, it's called Legend of the Seeker. Pretty much the same type of fantasy goofiness; except it seems to be based more on love and fighting.
It's actually one reason why I miss having cable/satellite. I haven't watched tv with the freedom of switching from channel to channel and watching pretty much anything even if it's boring, goofy or odd, in many years. I mostly download everything I want to watch but lately with the exception of Merlin and Legend of the Seeker, they are definitely making me miss the good ol' days of tv that I enjoyed long ago.
;D YAY!!! NIGHTFABLE! YOUR BACK!!!! lol welcome back :) lol, also ive been watching merlin religously! lol i was antsy for the new series i couldnt wait lol
Errr....Nightfable hasn't been around since April. Which you should've actually realised when you dug up a thread from last year.
....And I still haven't gotten around to watching Merlin :D.
There was a Sam Neil mini series called Merlin from 1998., I liked that one, sort of ha d a good "magic/power is worthless when people are greedy" point to it. This I haven't watched much, just seemed "meh" to, was mentioned, Xena-like.
The guy in blue has a young and an old head!!!11

Why are you talking about Nightfable's back? And why so excited about it?

Love makes blind - even the oldest and those with dementia! ;D
That's the only reason I can think about, when someone is so happy about a thread from November'10 and welcomes a member today that hasn't been logged in since last April ;)
lol....... sorry, way back in the day on an old account of mine she introduced me to AGS way back in 2003 lol (theres a back story to it)
I was bored an noticed the Merlin post, then I noticed that she was posting again... I thought she was long gone.
But i do really love this tv series :)
It's really cheesy, isn't it?.... It's like Dr Who- can't decide whether it's for the kiddies or for the grown-ups.
I like to think I'm a grown-up outside and a kid inside ( just a bit? anyway....) .... and I still don't like it. Sorry... ;)
I actually like it. Probably because it reminds me of my younger years watching Xena, Hercules, and Sinbad. They were all corny as hell including this one, but it's very relaxing.
What is this kiddie stuff? Where's Merlin's super-serious wizard look? Unacceptable!
The authentic, mature Merlin has a manly beard, fearsome gaze and uses Latin incantations:

Well I don't know about you, but when I was little the duel between Merlin and Mim gave me the chills...well not as much as Carbina Burana at the begining of Excalibur, but still not pleasant.
Pffft...everyone knows that Merlin is REALLY Dr. Alan from Jurassic Park.

I'm not sure if that's the kind of chills you mean, but I remember as a kid I was very afraid of Mim, her cat form, and her sudden transformations from a sexy dancer to the "maximal uglification" form.
As for Excalibur I couldn't very well deal with the crazy things going in there until I was well past kindergarten. btw Nicol Williamson was an excellent (and unique) Merlin too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjsiGd8iAfs

Yeah, I meant it in a creepy way. And yes Williamson is a bit overdramatic but it fits that role.
Also on the note of creepy witches: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muOYgvCJcWk
And that's generally why I don't like this show, it goes too much into "kid friendly" waters.
That's the goofiest looking Merlin ever. Does he have an obsession with a spell to shrink his monstrous elephant ears?
I watch it sometimes, it's good fun and it has Anthony Head! So yep, recommended.
I never knew they had hair gel and renaissance castles in the 6th century.
Yeah, what I hate about shows like that is how the costumes always look way too modern and clean. It's like they don't even try.
It's like they are making a TV show with limited resources and do not own a time machine to film in the actual past or something.
Well, they could have at least made the costumes dirty and smelly and tell the stars that they can't wash their hair for the time of filming.
It also puzzles me why the second from left is wearing a pauldron. They were not worn or even invented until the Late Middle Ages. Hundreds of years after the [supposed] lifetime of King Arthur.
I'm not sure they actually gave a specific timeframe for the events of the show, and people have placed Arthur all over the middle ages, so I don't think that is really all that much of an issue.
However, the wiki page says that it was influenced by Smallville....which, doesn't really improve my chances of watching it. :P
At least they didn't fall for that old realism killer of having a talking dragon that sounds exactly like John Hurt.
Anyway, enough about inaccuracies in a work of fiction that's not supposed to be accurate, only a reimagining of the legend. And Mr. Elephant ears is one of the best things in the show! And by that I mean he's very good, not that everything else is even worse.
The biggest problem I have with the show is that they completely flushed the character of Morgana down the toilet between series two and three. Yeah, let's just skip the inner conflict that made the character interesting and jump straight into her being a bad bad baddie with no conscience. Sigh.
