Messiah, the game

I've just gotten my Hands on Messiah, and am eager to play it. However I have a slight problem... it wont run. I can play it in safemode, which Triggers the ugliest graphics and removes all music and sound, oh yay. If I start it in normal mode it just crashes to desktop giving me the generic XP error and asks if I want to submit the error. I've tried the compability modes, 95, 98/me, which now allows me to see the intro and I have sound, then the screen goes black and I hear the first 2 seconds... then it crashes...

I wish this didn't happen. make it not happen. now

I had almost the same exact problem with the game Mafia. I reinstalled directx and everything worked fine. So I would recommend trying that.

Everything else I would recommend should be pretty obvious, check drivers, windows update, make sure all of your hardware is working properly, acceleration all the way up, etc.

A note about the directx thing, I had the newest version (game only required 8), it was corrupt or something. It didn't cause any problems with any other programs.

Hmmm... I tried that. Re-installed Directx, updated graphics-card drivers, and I have the newest audio-drivers. Newest updates. Acceleration full, Hardware fully working.

Now it tells me it can't find any Direct3D drivers at all!

EDIT: I now get the same results as before, only I heard the main-menu music for 3-4 seconds,

Have you tried running it in Windows 2000 Compatibility Mode settings?
Did you try un-installing and re-installing the game?

And, I've never seen/heard of the game before reading about it in this post, so not sure if the following links really apply:

I have installed all the patches, and have read those threads before. I'm thoroughly reading it now again and puzzling together all the information I find

EDIT: got it running with some more tweaking ingame and 3rd party software. Sudden ingame crashes often happen, but I can play it with sound now, thanks Barbarian and Juncmodule
