Title: Mexican Restaurants in London?
Post by: Nikolas on Wed 20/06/2007 18:05:59
Hey all!

It is one of those posts... (they usually come once or twice a year ;D) In a little while it's my wifes birthday, and I'd like to take her out! Get a babysitter (second time in 2007! You can imagine how special this is :D) and get her to dinner.

We love mexican food, but frankly we've tried 3 restaurants thus far and they were awful!

so, does anybody know a good mexican restaurant? West or centre mostly... I don't want to travel 20 miles... As for price, anything really (not that I would want to spend 100 quid on a single dinner, but...)

Any ideas are welcome... :)

Thanks for your help

Don't you have any Taco Bell's in London? Now that is some good eating.  ;)

Being in America, I can't help you with specifics.  But I've been to Mexico before, and Northern Mexican style restaurants are definitely the best tasting.

Worst comes to worst, make some enchiladas at home  ;)

You could try the Texas Embassy Cantina (off Trafalgar Square) for some Tex-Mex, although I think it's more Tex than Mex.
Taco Bell lasted a couple of years in Picadilly Circus. I think it was misunderstood.

goddamn you!!!!!!

Yes, I was mostly referring to Trudy's.

I'll add Hula Hut. Guerro's, Polvo's, and even the Oasis.  Altho the Oasis is a bit bland.

Sunset capital of the world!  The rays of the sun make the food taster better!

I doubt there will ever be another thread where this conversation is even slightly appropriate but MAAAAAANG I miss the Salt Lick.

This is all I get in Western New York. That and Taco Bell. We had a Chi Chi's, but they left us.

Ok

We went to Mestizo (http://www.mestizomx.com/main.html) yesterday and it was quite wonderful!

Free parking after 18:30 ;D
Great food and rather large portions at resonable prices (around 12£ per portion)
Great cooking and great service (everything went very smoothly)
Great drinks (great range of margaritas, for example)

In all we really enjoyed it and it is worth going there once to check it out. It does appear to have rather true spirited mexican food (since I've never been to Mexico I can't really tell, but it had chicken with cocoa, which is not the usual thing you find in most restaurants, and I know that it's a Mexican dish).
