My bro is an electrical engineer, so he builds and assembles computers..... he's in the process of building our family's new computer, and he's instaling Window's XP.
He's installed the basic Device Drivers, and now XP, and Norton Antivirus detected BLASTWORM.exe!!!! as well as three other viruses.....
Since there is NOTHING on the computer except what he got from the (legally bought) cd's from microsoft, it means the virus MUST BE ON THE CD! He's formatted and re-formatted about five times.
how freaking stupid is that?!

or did you even connect to teh NET?
He's connected to the internet, yes... but ONLY to download a device driver from microsoft.com
And he's no dummy. He's not the sort of person who accidentally downloads spyware and viruses and stuff. He knows how to avoid it..... unfortunately I don't... but anyway......

The first thing after connecting to the internet is do Windows Update, and get all the critical updates, otherwise you will get blasterworms and all that shite just by being on the internet.
There's a critical update that stops the blasterworm.
we already did the critical windows update and everything prior.

No, you're right -- It's obviously Microsoft that's purposely infecting people's computers with viruses.
It's just that everyone else is keeping quiet, so you're a real trailblazer here.
You should sue him for purposely infecting your computer -- From what you've told us, it sounds like you have a pretty concrete case against him.
I always felt that it made perfect sense that the people who made the viruses were the people who sold the anti-virus protection.
afterall, those companies would go belly-up should hackers suddenly get bored and stop.

IMO, if you become a danger for the virtual society, you'd be taken out from the virtual society (A.K.A. Virus makers should be send to a desert island without computers ;D).
But I think we're all together in this, as we're creators and the virus makers are destroyers... Shame on them.

I highly doubt that any corporation, including Microsoft could afford to infect their own files with viruses intentionally. Sooner or later the public would find out and have some nasty things to deal with.
Perhaps Norton missrecognized the file. That happens alot.
Immediately upon connecting to my college network (which is infected like the dirty whore it is) I had a couple of viruses until I downloaded some updates and cleaned it.. My computer had itchy red bumps on it for a week.

Yes - he DOES design them for large amounts of money, but the designing process means he has to know a jolly lot about a computer works: thus he can assemble them relatively cheap for us.
Okay- maybe everyone here missed my point.... OF COURSE I don't believe microsoft intentionally infected my computer and only my computer with 4 viruses. But that is the only [conceivable] way it happened, because nothing else has been NEAR our computer, and he got the windows critical updates blah blah blah, so he's 99.9% sure it wasn't from the net......
And 99.9999999999999999% that it wasn't in the original CD...

The blast worm popped up about six months ago a brought all computers down...that use most versions of windows...backdoor or hole some where......it shuts your machine constantly.....
Funny thing is in order for most people to fix they need to go on internet....(the place this came from..) and the computer keeps shutting down before you can get the blastfix patch.....
Took me hours and only good by being fast with the mouse......i got a back up of the download somewhere...

If you buy a DVD player...or new car......or whatever....
You don`t have to keep going back to the source to repair the problems they forgot to sort...and then after a month its out of date because they add 100mb of updates..
