So... I downloaded the new MSN. It's cool, my buddies were saying, it has new winks and new features and everyhing. Download it now. And so I did. Now it just won't run. I get two seconds to enjoy the new features, whatever they are, and it freezes. And now, my computer is twice as slow. I found no link of the old MSN on the site, it just has one that says "Get the new MSN now!"

Any ideas of what could be the reason (other than the fact Microsoft sucks)? I guess it's a conflict, but I'm not willing to turn off my anti-virus or whatever could be the conflict, because of this crap.

I forgot to mention that everything just stopped running properly...

Edit: After doing a system restore, all the problems appear to be solved. I rushed to make a new topic though before I tried that (I had already tried everything else). But, Microsoft still sucks.

Microsoft gets worse and worse. I'm scared to even imagine what the future will be like

Oliver

Can't you uninstall msn and try downloading it somewhere else?
You got it!

I think it's still in "beta", so there it may be a bit "buggy" on some computers.
If you have a Windows version such as XP, ME, 2000, You can try to do a "System Restore" (Usually from Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tool, System Restore) to rollback your systems settings to a recent time to before you installed the newest MSN, which would hopfully get things working normally again for you.

Thanks all. I already tried uninstalling it and re-installing it, system restore fixed it all including the sudden slowness and everything.

The beta works just great, but the version I downloaded wasn't beta.

Microsoft does suck.
The fact that you had to reboot your pc to eradicate all possible bugs is a good enough reason to hate Microsoft.

Microsoft doesn't suck....  The Xbox is one killer game machine.

I don't always agree with what they do on the PC side of things, but i definitely don't hate MS.

Mr Jake

How many people that posted "I hate microsoft" are using Windows?  ::)

'tis not hypocrisy - merely a necessary evil.

I'm not fond of its policies nor its current trends of yielding to the wishes of corporations and specialized industry.  It's a company that caters not a whit to the home user except when it suits them.  They care about security only as much as it provides a PR podium.

However, for gaming (both retro and new), it's the platform most suitable.  I keep meaning to give Linux a more thorough go-round but for now I'm not eager to figure out how to run X game or X graphic application, let alone complete projects that are difficult to finish on the platform they're based around.

Agreeing with previous posts, Trillian or GAIM are both decent programs for maintaining IM contact without commiting to any one (or multiple) IM client(s).  I personally prefer Trillian just because I'm rather attached to a skin or two it has but think GAIM is the more well-designed product.

I'm still with the MSN 7 beta, second one of those that I noticed. It crashes from time to time, and all in all is more buggy than the previous beta version I had. But I won't get the stable release, as I hear it is not all that stable...

I tried GAIM once, it was nice, apart from every single time I started it I needed to re-enter my msn account information... it kept nothing! Every start was like after the first install...
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

I'm using Windows and it sucks too. Especially XP. It's an adware and spyware magnete. And I'm still using it! Why? Well... umm... er... I don't really know.

Yes it does and you can't deny it ;)

Have you ever immunized with Spybot? That helps... I've NEVER gotten more than one or two spyware programs at one time, and they were easy to eliminate.

Microsoft do not suck.

Some of their products are buggy, but so are countless other, less-well-known companies'. The only reason Microsoft are singled out is the enormous popularity of their products. As for their enormous popularity, exactly why is that? Aside from Windows, and IE by association, which Microsoft products are we "forced" to use? None that spring to mind. There are reasonable alternatives to almost all MS products (that I can think of, Windows itself is the only MS product I use, aside from my mouse [MS hardware is another matter completely, I don't think anyone has any complaint about that?]).

Sure, every version of Windows has flaws and vulnerabilities, but I don't think most of you are considering the enormous variety of machines Windows runs on, and just how much work would be involved in testing all those possible hardware combinations. Absolute, flawless compatibility with all machines is pretty much impossible. Admittedly though, MS's attitude towards security is very lax, but I really don't think that's enough of a reason to decide they "suck". There are plenty of non-Windows ways of guaranteeing system security from outside invaders.

Out of interest, how many of you who flatly states "Microsoft suck" are computing students? None, I'm sure.

By the way, Yakspit, apparently Microsoft have excellent customer service when it comes to their products, aside from bug reports. That is, report defective hardware, or a broken disc or such and they'll replace it in a snap. Their attitude may stink towards security, but not in all areas...
