By the way, Yakspit, apparently Microsoft have excellent customer service when it comes to their products, aside from bug reports. That is, report defective hardware, or a broken disc or such and they'll replace it in a snap. Their attitude may stink towards security, but not in all areas...

You're right (on the hardware as well - my intellimouse optical lasted 7 years and I replaced it not because it broke but as an upgrade) their customer service is better than average.  I hate the WinXP authorization crap and it's handled poorly but it was resolved quickly every time I had to use the telephone.  When I stated that they don't care much about individual licensees, I was referring to the company as a whole.  However, especially considering how irate people can get (like when they add a stick of RAM and have their auth-code/cd-key voided) they deal with it well.

I can't say that MS just plain sucks but after watching recent trends it seems like it'll get worse: More dumbed-down, more restrictive and catering more to the DRM and anti-piracy themes that end up hurting honest users.

I only really use windows for AGS. All my other stuff is 100% Macintosh. I'm proud of it.

Come on, they once made a monster named Windows ME... and sold it to thousands unsuspecting happy computer users.
It would be okay, if these f**king stupid advertising (encouraging? ) messages during installation would tell more truth...
