Does anyone have any idea where I can find (or just of the existence of) a free copy of some simple yet effective MIDI synthesizer? I just need something simple to make some MIDIs for my game but all I've come across myself are huge elaborate copies of Cakewalk products in the like that cost hundreds of dollars. I don't need every single music software feature available to man. Just something simple with a staff, and instrument selection. SURELY one exists somewhere @_@

Please help!

I don't do MIDI but people ask this question all the time. I think someone asked it last week. The general consensus is usually that for a good one you'll need to pay around $30 at least, like most good programs. AGS is one of the good exceptions.

Do a forum search though to be sure.

I think you mean MIDI sequencer not synthesizer.

I've only used this program to edit and cut up longer midi's but it may be able to do the job.

There's an open source MIDI sequenzer called Jazz++.
You can get it at www.jazzware.com.

I don't think you'll find much better than ProTools Free - Link (http://www.digidesign.com/ptfree/)

The downside is that it's for Mac OS 9 or Win 98,Me but won't work on XP (at least without some tweaking).

Also, if you're looking for a notation editor, where you can enter in notes manually on a staff, you could try Noteworthy Composer (www.noteworthysoftware.com). They have a free evaluation version. Also Finale notepad is freeware and does pretty much the same thing(www.finalemusic.com).
