Title: Mittens 2005
Post by: AGA on Fri 04/03/2005 21:36:11
Blargh.

Mittens 2005. Hopefully in Australia. Presumably North New South Wales/Brisbane area somewhere (Brisbane airport would be nearest). Somewhere in the middle of July. Hopefully for 2 weeks. All very vague at the moment, but details won't get confirmed unless enough people show an interest.

So, who will be probably be able to come?

I will do my damnest to get there, but it won't happen at all unless enough people are gonna go, so...

Nothings happened so far since there's been too little interest registered.

If you want it to happen, please say so.

Yes, depending on dates. I think my exams end 20th June, but i wont be able to confirm that straight away, but mid July should be fine.

I'd love to go and see Australia, and meet you aussies!

Obviously people going from abroad should be aware that a return flight from the UK costs in the region of 600-800 pounds, so it's not something to take lightly.

Anyway, I'd be most interested to see which of you aussies would attend.

I really wanted to go last year ... but time/money didn't permit.

The only thing that would keep me from going this year will be the financing of it.  Because I've always wanted to visit Australia!

If it were later in the year ... like July/August I'd have a better chance (we just spent a fortune on a cruise next month!)

But yes, I'm DEFINITELY interesting in going!  I owe DG a beer :)

My first post suggests mid-July. It all depends when people are most available to travel, I guess. Flights during some months are substantially cheaper than others too.

I was wondering when Mittens '05 would be discussed.Ã,  I was very interested in going last year but the funds never materialized.Ã,  This year money should not be as big an issue and I'd enjoy visiting Australia, so colour me interested.

Aw man, the chances are that I won't be able to make it to Mittens/Brittens/Amerittens(?) this year. Why? well, you see, I'm graduating from the university and I have to get all this legal paperwork done so that I can stay in the country and it's not recommended that I leave the United States until the next year. I can't even go home...!  :'(

I've only been lurking about these forums regularly for about a year or so, so this question may seem incredibly stupid... But who in the world are the Mittens and how did we end up with an entire crew of them?

If everyone else knows what the Mittens Crew is all about, feel free to lampoon me for being incredibly dense, but surely I'm not the only one who has been wondering this.

Thanks in advance for any enlightenment,

Ponch

Given that I'm in Brisbane, it shouldn't be too much of a problem if I don't make it into JET and head off to teach in Japan for a year at the end of July. Even then, if the timing's right, I may be able to come back and make it.

Well I'd like to make it seeming as though I'm from Australia, but it probably won't happen. I start back at uni mid july and I live kinda like mid south NSW, so its a fair hike to get to brisbane. Still not ruling out the possibility.

I'm in Brisbane, and I'm interested, but it depends on a lot of things. Like a lot of people, I couldn't commit until less-vague details were given, but if you're just trying to gauge interest levels, then you can definitely include me.

My interest rate is a gabillion. However I'm not of age, nor do I have the financial support to partake in the misadventures of the mittens crew

There may be another Brittens type event.

Mittens is the yearly meetup of agsers, it's been going since 2002, there have been mittens in london, sweden and new york. Depending on how many you've gone to, you get a different title ;)

Unfortunatly there's no way I'll be able to make an Australia Mittens this year, as much as I'd like to come. The previous three have been highlights of my life, let alone the years they were held!

If there's a Brittens i'll be there for sure this time though.

18 years. But is up to the person hosting it to make the rules
You have to be responcible and old enough to travel alone.

Currently in Spain. No chance.

It'd be great. if Mittens - The Site were updated, to even include last years, but to all those who don't know much about Mittens, this is a good site to get information about it.

http://screen7.adventuredevelopers.com/mittens/

and if you want to see what idiots do during Mittens, you can go to my site, and see the videos.  I know i've said it before, but now that I have webspace, I can upload that edited Game Theory Discussion that I recorded for an hour. This would be a good time.

you can get the videos and my report on the event here:
http://www.lucasstyle.com/downloads.htm

there are numerous pages of pictures people took with funny captions in last years "mittens -we're back!" thread

I'm from Australia so I'd quiet like to go to mittens in my home country. The suggest place isnt to far away. I'm 16 though. Whoevers hosting mind lowering the age level?
Title: Re: Mittens 2005

The age has always been 18 in the past because that has been "legal" age in whichever country Mittens was in. At 18 you're considered responsible for your own actions, and therefore the host isn't liable if you break your damnfool neck.

16 is the age of consent here though. I cant drink or drive but other than that i an do whatever the hell I like. I could leave home or get a job if i wanted to.

Oh yeah, that's right guys. I happen to leave the country, for the first time ever, and you go ahead and organise to have Mittens right then and there, as if I'm meant to take it as just some sort of coincidence. Yeah right.

Seriously, that's kind of a bummer. I'm likely to be in America in July. Oh, wait. No. I get back in the middle of July. I think it should be had in the second half.

Well, I'll be in England in May. Brittens should be on then. Great idea guys.

What about a Mittens in Estonia? I'll be there in April.

If you're under 18, whoever is hosting will still be sticked with a Duty of Care Alec, whether they agree to take it on or not.

There were some people below 18 in the first mittens. In Sweden these things are of less importance than in for instance the US, because you're less likely to become sued for whichever reason here.

Even though I first planned on going to Australia this summer, I have to declare already that it won't happen. It's simply too expansive.

I have thought of organising a local meeting though. I'll see if there is an interest among nordic ags:ers to meet up in gothenburg again.

This thread might be going a bit offtopic what with people just saying they hope to go but probably can't. And uh... that's the case with me. I'd love to see Australia but the flights would just be too expensive.

But I'm definately up for attending a smaller meeting somewhere in Europe if you're planning to have one (and if it's some time in the second half of July - August, after 8th of July anyways). So Andail, I'm up for coming to Gothenburg.

I know everyone will hate me for it, but I would personally prefer the 18 age limit be kept for a mittens I'd be attending. It just makes things neat, you're unlikely to get any crap from someone's parents, and drinking wouldn't be an issue.

Still, given that my attendance at this one is up in the air, it's not like anyone should listen to me.

I would really love to come and see Australia.  I think I could afford it if I started saving NOW...
...but then again I've got lots of bills to pay...
...but it's MITTENS, man!  I wanted to go last year, but I lost my job and couldn't.  Now's my chance!...
...Yeah, but I'm TRYING to be responsible for a change here.  There will always be next year, or the year after...
... or will there?  Stop being a momma's boy, and say, "Yesh, I iz coming"...
... Don't call me a momma's boy!...
... Momma's boy!   :-*...
... I'm going to kick your ass  >:(...

If I remember correctly, there is a deadline to say whether or not we are coming?

No way I could come to Australia, though I'd like too  :-\

I do not know when exactly, but I'm planning on going to work in UK sometime during summer. If there were Brittens at that time I just might hop in. Sweden or Finnland are quite near so maybe I could manage for a meeting there too (but it's highly in question).

How crazy, 3 agsers from australia, not in australia at the time of the proposed mittens.

I'm in england, aussie is in spain, and toefur is wherever he is, jetsetting about. Crazy stuff.

What australians will attend ausmittens? Or will it just be dg and las drinking VB and trading insults... Which I would love to see.

The idea of an Amerittens sounds good for me at least this year, though any kind of "ittens" that is not Mittens sounds kind of watered down to me, however affordable.

I'm heading off to England this summer to check out some Universities and take in the scenery. I can do that any time really so I could probably schedule it alongside Brittens and perhaps a show or so of the looming Jamiroquai tour.

I wish Brittens lasted longer than 3-4 days though... or could it?
