Okay, Domino posted a thread about finding a movie and he got the answer.

Now, I need help. I also tried googling and believe me, I Googled till I felt tears in my eyes. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the artist or song. I can't even remember the lyrics! All I know is that when I type in the few common words like "go," "know," "got to," "try," and "again" it's far too vague. And those words might not even be correct and just what I 'thought' was what I heard from the little I can recall. At first I was crossing my fingers thinking it'd be Matthew Sweet. Nope.

Here's what I remember. I know how the tune goes. It's very upbeat, has piano in it (I think), has this chorus where the vocalist just seems to be saying words in the stop and go (insert word here). (insert word here). (insert word here). And his voice sounds kind of like Ian McCulloch on the song "The Killing Moon" and Roland Orzabal on "Head Over Heels." It's that high toned kind of voice. Anyone know?

As I never listen to music I cannot help, but a while ago someone posted this here (I couldn't find the original thread) for another person who wanted to find out the name of a song. Maybe this can help you too.

Alternatively, can you record the tune and post it here? In the chorus, how many words are there in the stop and go? Other than that, no suggestions yet.

only thing that came to mind was this http://music.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=music.artistalbums&artistid=5887542&ap=0&albumid=4617656

but it's probably not that, sorry :/

Edit: and on rereading your post it's definitely not upbeat so it's definitely not this song. Bleh. More details would be good...

Hm... Ian McCulloch-ish and piano... Could be something by Devotcha, perhaps?
Always thought their lead singers voice had a bit of Echo & the Bunnymen in it.

Nah, it's not Devotcha, but I bookmarked that page 'cause that's some good music. It's not really Ian McCulloch on regular vocals, but specifically for "The Killing Moon" where it's a bit more high-pitched. Thanks anyway.

This is one of those songs that I can hum the chorus over and over again, but not knowing the exact words will damn me. That midomi site looks awesome, so I'll give it a shot once I get a mic.

Here's what I THINK the words are during the chorus. In no particular order: When. You. Do. Can. I. Again.

No guarantee that those are the words though. It also has this uptown kind of feel to it. It's like something Billy Joel would sing. I heard this song on the radio a few years back, twice.
