The girlfriend of a good friend of mine has been a huge adventure gamer her whole life.  She's one of the coolest people I've ever met, and it's always fun to have discussions about Monkey Island 2 and other subjects that are otherwise restricted to online talk.  I've only met one other guy who was already into adventures when I met him, so I guess half of the adventurers I've found are women

Could it be that there are not a lot of women gamerz out there? especially the kind who likes old adventure games, like me?

I think what you'll find is that there are a lot of women who play adventure games - take a look at the JustAdventure forums, for example. However, there are significantly less women who develop adventure games - probably because game development has long had a sort of "male" association, that makes people think of spotty teenagers sitting in their bedrooms coding, and so forth.

Every step to redress the balance is of course welcome.

I think the most basic answer to your question is that nobody will criticize a game that's any good (except in a constructive manner).  You can always get lotsa feedback too, on art, storyline, music, scripting, initial demo, etc.

The real reason not many females develop games is because not many females like computers. They just think of the stereotypical greasy-haired spotty-faced braces-wearing teenage guy who sits in his room coding forever and they are instantly  turned off computers and anything that has anything to do with them. I know a guy who fits that description exactly exhapt that he plays quake and unreal instead of coding. If my father didn't get me into computers I would never touch them.
I'm not much of an adventure gamer, but I wanted to try and develop something so here I am with my crappy graphics and odd storylines.

I've noticed that people of the female persuasion have gained a much stronger presence on the internet in the past year or so. I can't say I'm too pleased with the resulting oversaturation of ^__^ style smilies.

You can't totally blame either on females. Men have their hands in the ^_^ and "furry" influx in internet society, too. I know first hand that this is true!

Anyway, huge yay for more female game developers. It's always nice to see more, especially since we are so few and far between. We're like dodo, except the opposite of extinct.
