TMG Freeware Computer Game Recommendation: Maniac Mansion Deluxe 4/22/09

Here is a viral video series that I've started on my Vlog and Blog. I discuss how much I enjoy Maniac Mansion Deluxe.

Even if you don't think this video is very professional, you should at least find it amusing!  :)

UPDATE: Just to let everyone know, I was finally able to post my YouTube video instead of the Blog video...

I'm no mod, but haven't you already been told a few times not to spam the forums with links to your blog ???

I'm absolutely stoked to see that you're still posting threads in which the entire first post is a gigantic link (to your own blog nonetheless (which has nothing to do with AGS (which is ultimately the reason for the existence of these forums))).

It is completely, 100% the best possible way to gain respect and not get flamed/banned here.

Pretending you don't know what's happening at this point and posting only a smiley are two more wonderful examples of the type of activity which the forum was created for, and is based around, and in no way is in any violation whatsoever of any of the forum rules/regulations, of course (note: end sarcasm).

To everyone who isn't VGOTheMeekGeekVGV posting here (myself included), I have only one thing to say, in the form of a potentially racially insensitive image (therefore I won't post it directly) which can be seen here.

Edit: I just checked...just for reference, and 7/23 posts by VGO are like this. That's more than 30% which is of course incredibly brilliant. If I myself did this at the same rate, I would have 954 posts to this same effect (accounting for 0.23% of the entire forum's content). VGO, I commend you on your supreme example.

Boy oh boy. I didn't mean to inspire such rage from my peers. I just wanted to show how much of a fan I am of Maniac Mansion Deluxe (an AGS Game, mind you!)

I wanted to share it through my YouTube account originally, NOT through my Blog, but, I was having difficulty sharing the YouTube Link. I felt at the time that the post from my blog would be appropriate.

I did NOT expect such a fuming and foaming tirade from people. But, being a meek geek such as I am, I sincerely apologize for causing you such pain.

On risk of provoking further angst, I would like to ask everyone if it's still possible to share ORIGINAL material and videos that I designed, on the Forum, without irritating viewers?

I'm open to suggestions. But please, please, please, if at all possible give me your HELPFUL suggestions in a calm, sober and reasonable manner.

I'm really not such a bad geek/guy, once you get to know me.

P.S. monkey_05_06... that IS a VERY funny Messenger Icon! Thanks so much for letting me have it! I will treasure it ALWAYS!  ;)

I don't think anyone minds you having a link to your blog in your signature. But linking whole posts to a blog is annoying, and it looks like a desperate attempt to raise attention. Even if your blog were all about adventure games and related stuff, it would cause what you call rumour and I'd like to call justified.

Many forum members (myself included) have a blog. And some of us (myself included) link to that blog. It can be done with a little text, an image, whatever. But it's just an extra. If someone sees the link, he can decide if he wants to visit. That's the polite way, see.

This is a forum where people who made adventure games as a hobby meet. Apart from adventure games, we all have other interests and like to talk about them, so there's a General Discussion forum where we do that. And that's all there is to say- this is no marketing place, no general gaming forum, no random community, there is a theme here. As long as you can stick to that theme, no troubles.

And if you link to someplace, don't use the whole post either. Use one word, preferrably one related to the article. Much easier on the eye, and you avoid random hits too.

Ghost:

Thank you so much for such a polite but firm post! I feel much more motivated to do the right thing, now that someone has spoken to me in a kind and reasonable manner.

Oh, the part you make on whole posts being linked. Yeah... about that. I'm VERY sorry about that issue. However, I seemed to have had some difficulty lately with posting Images with links on them. I posted an image with some text, and for some reason, the link got mixed up with the text.

If someone could please show me, since I'm a slow learner, how to properly post linked images - without causing discrepencies with text...

... I would be very thankful!

... Update...I seemed to have solved the problem... I reposted my text BEFORE the Picture and Link. It looks better!  :D

I make a pledge to everyone, that I'll do everything in my power to leave interesting posts and links without violating the rules on Blogs.

I only hope the fine ladies and gentlemen at Adventure Game Studio can forgive me for my errors, so we can continue sharing interesting, educational and entertaining material.

Thanks again for bearing with me. I am still new to the Fine Art of Foruming...  ;D

I think the haters exist because you were told this before. And, like monkey said, it consists of a large part of your posts. Join in discussions that don't include your blog, and you'll slowly gain some respect around here (that's what I've done, and I still sometimes don't feel like I'm respected--so I'm not trying to sound elitist)

Also, I like your new banner. That's perfectly acceptable (and I can tell it's a link, rather than a random Pac-man immage).

Thanks for the heads up. I also appreciate your encouraging words regarding my banner.

This advice helps me learn the rules better. I learn by doing.  :)

I notice that your youtube recommendations are more of a tutorial on how to use the pc than what you think of the games/how to get them.  It seems like you're trying too hard, especially to make content (filler) for the video by showing people how to type a url, showing people how to access a virus checker that they may or may not have, showing people how to access a directory tree, showing people how to click download.  This is unnecessary and severely detracts from the point of your videos, which is to recommend freeware games.  My advice is to keep it simple and stick to a very personal review of the game in question and then post a visual link to the game.  Also, you seem to have difficulty with reading your lines, constantly looking down at your paper.  I don't think you need a prepared speech to do a competent review, and it would look more professional if you weren't constantly pausing to look down while the camera is staring right at you :)

I don't want you to get the impression that I'm just trying to put you down, but right now your approach comes off as rather silly and patronising at the same time, in my opinion.

To provide the benefit of the doubt, I am willing to accept that maybe you really are just that thick that maybe when you've been told previously about the rules here it just simply never took.

That said, I wholeheartedly agree with everything that Prog just told you. The video did nothing to encourage me to download the game. In fact the way you described each detail of the download/installation process actually had the inverse effect, in that I wanted to do exactly the opposite of whatever words were coming out of your mouth.

You sound as though you don't speak English very well. Is it your native language? Prog was right about you looking at the paper too much. But even with the speech that was prepared, you still seemed to not understand what you were saying (even when saying your own user name!). Your pace, tone, inflection...it honestly came across that prior to reading it for the video you had never seen this "report" previously.

Also in line with what Prog said, I don't mean to come across as being offensive, but your video was portrayed as extremely patronizing itself. Just something you may want to consider.

I found your videos hilarious for all of these reasons. I don't quite get why everyone is being so hostile towards you for posting a video, you're obviously enthusiastic about making these videos which is nothing but a good thing. Make more and you'll only get better, that or you'll get worse, either one will do.

But what if his skill level doesn't change at all? Or fluctuates only a little, like f(x)=10+(sin(x)/100)? Wouldn't that work too?

OBI YOU HAVE MADE ME CONFUSED  >:(

MoodyBlues

"These games are not junky."  The way you said that cracked me up for some reason. :)

Sure, your videos aren't perfect, but I've seen much worse.  And they could be helpful for people who aren't terribly computer savvy.  Who knows - you may help introduce computer games to a new audience.
