A) I need an answer to this question badly
B) I'm aware its pointless as f^&* and perhaps annoying as well
C) I'm aware there's a chance I won't get an answer or an answer I'm happy with.
This goes mostly to people that have seen lots of movies.
If my favorite movies are:
Brazil, 12 Monkeys, Donnie Darko, Lost in Translation, Legend of 1900
What movie should get me an equal psychological impact to those movies?
I find the feeling from these movies as overwhelming nostalgia with a bit of sadness.
psychological impact? you mean a mindfuck?
Try 'Closer' with clive owen and natalie portman. That film is strange.
also try 'If...' with Malcolm McDowell, which is even stranger.
...well go with Gilliam. Tideland is pretty messed up. Haven't read the entire book, but the movie is pretty weird and I like that Terry himself starts the movie by saying something along the lines "if you find things in this movie disgusting and weird, then you're not thinking like a child" and that's exactly the point of the movie, thinking like a child, pure and full of imagination, it's a whole different movie.
Also try Naked lunch, Breakfast of champions, Fountain and of course Fight club if you haven't seen it yet (if you like Fight club try Choke as well, the one with Sam Rockwell), Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, Confessions of a dangerous mind.
Watch the Happening, starring the Funky Bunch. When you find out what's making all those people go nuts, you'll go nuts!
Werckmeister Harmoniak, perhaps? Actually, all of Bela Tarr's films can bring out a certain emotion because all of them are so astonishingly well scored and directed.
If you want to watch something messed up, you can go with David Lynch (you probably have already).
If you want to watch something that will overwhelm you emotionally, then try Dancer in the Dark, The Fall, The Breakfast Club and especially Elephant.
There was also this one movie that made me feel a really crappy mixture of nostalgic and abused, but I seem to have blocked it out of my memory. That's a shame, I'd love to see it again.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind is a good one.
I recommend Wim Wenders' Paris, Texas for the perfect mixture of nostalgic, sad and otherwordly emotions that hit you wile watching it. And then Fahrenheit 451 by Truffaut. And I second Dancer in the Dark. One of the best uses of movie as an artistic means of blending picture and sound and create a whole new kind of storytelling.
I haven't seen "If..." as Calin recommended, however I do love Lindsay Andersons sort-of sequel, "O Lucky Man", which I definately would say has a rather pseudo-nostalgic and melancholic feel to it, as well as being rather confusing in a good way.

They don't have much in common with your favorites, but they're both worth watching and at least Adam's Apples could have some sort of "psychological impact" on you.

It's a really good film that tells 4 separate but interlinked stories.
Try a Russian war movie called "Come and See" for something different, and an emotional response.
