I'm supposed to play the piano on a concert. Trouble is there are no piano notes for those songs so I'm doing italmost from scratch. I've got mp3's of the songs. I don't know if it's possible or would it work but is there any easy to get MP3 music program which would open an mp3 and show the notes? Like some music maker that uses notation and mp3 format, so I could open those files in it. That would be so much help, as I would not have to invent anything from hearing. Could you please answer as quick as you can because it's very important to me, I need to manage about 3 songs in two months (any piano player would agree it's not time regarding my situation).

Even though I am no expert on this, I am sure I can tell you: There is no possibility to open the "notes" of a mp3-files because mp3 is digitally recorded sound, and not some kind of notation system which tells the computer what sounds to make as mide would be.  You should try to get midi-files, that would make it a lot easier.
There are some programmes which are supposed to make a midi out of an mp3, but they are as far as I know useseless when you have a polyphonic music.

Yeah, I knew the idea was hopeless... Not much hope of getting midi's either, these songs are not that much popular.

You would be best off doing it by ear. As Totoro said, there is no program that magically converts wave data to perfect notation.

I found some mp3 to midi (I searched for midi because any decent midi progam should let you view the song in notation format) converters via a quick google search, and just for the heck of it I decided to try one. The source mp3 I used was a two-piece piano tune, and the resulting midi was pretty much terrible. It got the main melody somewhat right at parts, but that was it.

You would seriously be a lot better off doing it by ear.

Ghormak, can I have the notes of the piece your avatar is playing? It sure looks like a catchy tune.

Ghormak

Definitely.

You have to use a special program to extract the notes, though.
