I mainly use MS Paint for what I try to do. Went looking for MS Paint tutorials on YouTube, and came across this:

Apparently, the artist committed to using MS Paint for a year, and he did some amazing stuff with it. There are a number of his "speed paintings" on the channel. He does go pretty in depth on one of them involving a tree; it's an actual tutorial. Worth a look. Appears he's moved on to other programs, but I was impressed.

We had a pretty awesome MSPaint artist @Opo Terser who would randomly swoop into topics with a beautifully done MSPaint image and then disappear again. Unfortunately, most of the images seem to have gone down as they were hosted on 2dadventure, and I'm not sure what to search in archive to find them (the current forum link format is not the same as back then, probably the URL was different too).

I remember using MS Paint back when I first started doing pixel art. I also remember preferring the original version of MS Paint from Vista and earlier, rather than the newer crappier version they introduced in Windows 7 (and don't get me started on the even newer Windows 10 version).

But then as time passed, I realized that it was kind of limiting. I really wanted transparency... and layers. But I also really liked that ease of use, especially the easy way you can assign a colour to both the left and right mouse buttons. So I looked around and found PaintDotNET. I've never looked back since.

People always seem to be too hasty to write MS Paint off as being useless. But it's actually a pretty good tool. It's simple and easy to use for starters. Sure, it's lacking a few basic features, but other than that, it's still pretty good in my opinon.  :-D
I can definitely understand why some people never move on from it.  (nod)

I'm also using paint.net and never moved to anything fancier. It's also very easy to use but has some more feautures than MS Paint. And the lack of layers and transparency makes Paint really kind of useless, except for very simple stuff.
