Msn Live has just been released -- and so far it looks like a friggin kickass program. It has a massload of new features seriously rocks.

(You can get Msn Live here.)

A really good feature is that now you can send/recieve offline messages, chat while your status is set to 'Appear Offline'.

An even BETTER feature imo is that it now has 'sharing folders'. This is a folder that is shared between you and one contact. Either one of you can put files in there, edit/remove existing files etc. You have a different folder for each contact.
Anyway down to my problem: When I try to initiate 'sharing folders' it says my pc does not support them, than asks me whether I want help with the problem. I say yes and it takes me to the help file (which is very unhelpful). Basically I just found out that both parties need XP and Msn Live, (which is == true). I am running XP and I DO have Msn Live. Anyway just wanted to know if anyone has any answers to why this wouldn't be working?

So enjoy this kickass piece of software and get chatting! (and I'm not usually one to get excited about any software from Microsoft).

XP uses a wonky Shared Files system and you have to enable it to share with other computers on your network, so I think MSN is basicly trying to do the same thing. I know under My Computer you can access the Shared Files folder, but I dunno how much help that will be. Looks to be an awesome program, but I've never been a fan of MSN programs.

Ok so you mean I have to enable Shared Folders in XP for it to work?

Because so far it looks that is enabled ... But I don't know I'm not much of an XP boff.

Is your harddisk formatted as FAT32 or NTFS?
The shared folder option will only work if the harddisk is the latter.

MSN Programs are in the narrow field of experience of mine very good, although sometimes buggy, but bugs seem to get fixed in later versions. But the help files have always been very unhelpful. The MSN Feedback -thing is just a buttload of choose-on-scale-1-to-5 questions. And that appears to be the only communication way to MSN concerning this software.

And they do require all sorts of funky extra stuff for Windows to actually get all the features working.

Do you both have SP2? I have a feeling it might have something to do with that...
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

Mr Flibble

Isn't this sort of integration the kind of thing they've been sued over in the past?
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

Phemar

I don't know what SP2 is ...

I know it works for all my friends though.

Hammerite

i used to be indeceisive but now im not so sure!

Eigen

I don't have SP2 and it works fine, so yeah, it might be something with that.

Maybe a firewall blocking the required ports (either on your router or your pc, or both)?
I wouldn't know where find out which ports it requires though.
Almost intentionally left blank.
