Title: MSN Messanger problem
Post by: Nikolas on Sat 04/02/2006 07:47:56
Hi! I thought I'd ask here, because I can't find a solution myself.

Sometime last week, msn notified me that there is a new messanger out the 7.5! And so I downloaded, installed and started using it! but no! I couldn't use it.

The problem: It takes ages to type in the address (a lot of time for each letter). When I do and finally enter the passwoerd I can't sign in cause there is something wrong. It actually says the following:

"Singing in to MSN messanger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

Whne I try troubleshooting I get that my gateway is offline. When I choose repair, nothing happens...

Any help? Any ideas?

I had exactly the same problem before. Well, not exactly, but every time I signed on I had one or two seconds before MSN froze. There was nothing I could do! I couldn't find an earlier version that had enough features (me and my friends abuse the drawing feature :P), so I tried to do a System Restore.

It worked, except that some things were missing (eg no sounds and stuff). When the next version came out, I installed it and it worked.

So I suggest that you either use windows messenger (which is more stable anyway), but if you can't live without the new features try doing a System Restore. Then wait for the next version.

Before you do all that, check if there's a conflict with some other software, of course.

Forgot to mention:

The windows messanger doesn't work either. Nor the e-messenger.net does...

are you on a network?..  our second computer had problems signing in,  removing the original messenger did help (you can do it in  add/remove), also if yahoo messenger effects it too, shutting yahoo down while using MSN seems to help
we formatted the second  computer and it helped a lot, so it maybe worth trying a system restore as Guybrush Peepwood said
its still a bit twitchy at times on both computers..
oh is your time and date right? if its wrong it wont sign in

You should download "MSN messEnger" and forgett that "MSN messAnger"... Messenger is better.  ;D

(Sorry, I am pointed so many times as the typo man, that I couldn't resist pointing out a typo made by another member...)  ;)

retried from windows messEnger (thanks Farl...) and got the following message:

"Singing in to .NET Messenger service failed because the serivce could not be found. Please make sure that you are connected to the internet"!!!!!!

Date and time are correct, and I have installed some BIG stuff inthe computer since a cuople of restore points so doing that would give me a days headache... But in the end if nothing else comes up, I might just try that...

Also singing off yahoo, did not help either...

Tried restoring to an earlier point... Didn't work...

I get that when my connection status icon says "connected" but when I check it is is not. Or when I have my AV and cookies blocking at a very high level.

Curious, and nice to know I'm not the only one to have got that problem.

When I first ever got msn it worked for about three days before I got that message all the time. I uninstalled it, but later found myself re-installing it with a new account. It has been working fine until yesterday, when msn crashed out on me, and then i got their infernal unavailable message again! I tried being REALLY perisitent with it, clicking cancel and go repeatedly and turning my pc off and putting it back on, and it submitted and came on!

(MSN, I hate it, but I want it...)
