Tune Contest compilation?

So, I was thinking, "There have been some awesome tunes composed for the tune competition, someone should pick the best ones out and make a compilation".
Basically, that's my idea - someone who has been following the competition closely to pick a cd's worth of songs and order them properly in a playlist. What do you think, would that be a good idea? Any volunteers?

a small problem might be that the mp3s (midis) or not uploaded anymore. I mean I wouldn't keep an mp3 online for a year or so... But it's an interesting idea.

And while we're at tune contest I need to address a question: "Why is it sooo unpopular?" I mean BG blitz gets 4 pages and the tune contest gets 2-3 entries each time...

Geoffkhan had the same feeling as me on this one...

Firstly, I like this idea. The tune competitions have generated a lot of good music that does not deserve to be forgotten.

As for the issue raised by Nikolas, a lot of the music that isn't still online might very well have been kept by their creators, contest runners, or others. It should be possible to find much of it.

And regarding popularity, I think the easiest answer is that there are just a lot more background artists than there are composers. And that's just a fact that we can't really do anything about. Still, though, the number of entries has varied a lot. At times the contests have been rather prosperous, while at other times they just die. Mostly, though, I guess that variation is because, unlike the other contests, there's no big mass of people that keep it alive no matter what.

Also, many of the older threads have disappeared long time ago. However, I have saved some of my favourite entries on my harddrive so my collection includes, for example, a couple of tunes from the first ever tune compo. I even found a list of the ten first tune compo winners!

1st. Ghormak
2nd. Ben
3rd. Trapezoid
4th. DarkStalkey
5th. Spyros
6th. Ghormak
7th. Fuzzpilz
8th. Ghormak
9th. Sluggo
10th. EldKatt

...but I have no idea why I compiled that list back in the days though...

But it is a nice idea and would possibly work very well.

;D from now on I will enter all tune contests, or at least try. Be warned, I have no music in me, it illudes me. I just don't understand music making and those things you do :)

Maybe, Eldkatt, but there's still the issue of who will get to decide, if the tunes are not on-line. I can't go asking everybody that's taken part in the contest to reupload their tunes so I could listen to them...

Maybe an idea (maybe not the perfect one, but certainly easier), would be to get the winners of the tune contests each time...

EDIT: Buloght, I've taken part in 1 sprite contest. I decided to do everything. At least I tried. You are sooooooooo welcome to try the tune contest and I'm sure that a lot of people will be willing to give you a helping hand, including me...

And I hope that other people will join in too...

If you're up for doing the compilation, Nikolas, you could listen to the  tunes that are still up, and just neglect those which aren't. Or ask Petteri to send you his collection.
