Title: MSX
Post by: AnasAbdin on Wed 14/09/2011 08:28:28
Did anyone here play msx games? What's your favorite?
I played mostly every msx game, and now I'm using the emulator and playing the roms on my pc..
I still play Nemesis, Salamander, Knightmare, Castle....
my favorite is Nemesis 2, graphics, music and of course game play.

thanx to Kimbra for the push!

Yeah, an MSX was my first computer. For many years I thought of Microsoft as primarily a hardware company. I learned to program BASIC on that. I had it hooked up to a photocell and... something - a record player maybe? - so I could play a tape whenever someone opened the door to my room.  :=

I used to play some kind of platforming game where you were a guy with a helicopter rotor on his back. That was pretty good. There was a flight simulator I could never figure out the point of because I thought "Practice mode" meant "practical": as in, actually playing the game. (I barely knew any English at the time.) There was some sort of top-down Metal Gear-ish shooting game (not actually Metal Gear, although I think the MSX was actually the original platform for MG).

Best/worst game was probably Ghostbusters. I loved that it played the theme song karaoke-style over the title screen, but I didn't have the manual, so I didn't know the account codes and could never buy all the equipment you need to actually beat the game. (The basement containment unit is like a million dollars, but without it you can't empty the ghost traps, so after a few missions you're basically screwed.) Of course, eight-year-old me did not realize this, and Ghostbusters was my favorite movie, so I kept trying anyway.

Good times!

I programmed BASIC on msx at first too. I also had the tape player that was used to load cassette games. do u remember the loading sound? eeee aaa eee aa loool
flight simulator sucked big time I never liked it. It took me a year to figure out what to do with Ghost Busters... and yes, MSX is the first to have a Metal Gear game.

--- 2 years ago I played SD Snatcher --- quite funny but, even with the emulator at full speed during combat, it was relatively long and reduncdant ---

In other hand, if you have any sugestion of unknown adventure games that worth it on this computer go on.

there was an isometric (also as I recall a B&W game) where the player is between many characters and supposed to find someone who looks exactly like him... forgot the name :(
