Music artists we're embarrased to like

I don't really feel embarrased by listening to these guys, but I would judge others don't like them. They would be Meatloaf, love that bastard, and that american idol chick. I hate liking her because that show was a damn crock meant to rake in the cash and brainwash us into liking an artist before they even made a record.....but I do dig her.

I am embarrased to admit that I like emmenem or however you spell his name.

I listen to power metal. You know, stuff like Rhapsody and Avantasia.

You'd be surprised how many people insinuate gayness after hearing me say that. It's stupid, but I refuse to let it impair my love for epic fantasy power unicorn metal!
Still here.

Indeed, meatloaf kicks ass.  My parents had a whole collection of meatloaf records in the basement of my house, but stopped listening to him for some reason or another.  Also there's Jethero Tull, who wrote Thick as a Brick... so much rock flute... so many hours wasted.  And lastly Billy Joel, who my brother listens to alot and has brainwashed me into liking.  And I would be embarrassed to tell this to my friends--as well as the fact that I think that their rap/hiphop bullcrap sounds like a donkey being slapped in the ass with a snow shovel.

Yay Jethro Tull, I have all their albums and am proud of it...

Anyway, I listen to music from the Alexandrov red army choir to Polish progressive rock, which rocks by the way... and I started to think which one of the bands do I not dare say I listen to in public... not Sheryl Crow, she's a kick ass singer, not Björk, I love her, not the Schnappi stuff because I just have them, don't listen to them anymore.

But then I found a folder in my computer containing both the Black Eyed Peas albums...that I haven't told anyone before, but the funk! Then a while ago I was a big fan of 80's hit, had 13 albums of those, but it passed :D

Admitting my love of prog rock bands Yes, King Crimson and Gentle Giant wouldn't do me any favours in most trendy music fan circles. I'm not ashamed of it, though - they're great bands! Hopefully my severe hatred of fellow prog-rockers ELP and early Genesis tips the scales back a little. Actually on the whole I openly say everything I like is great, and that anyone who disagrees can piss off to hell.

I'm absolutely not embarrased to say I like Jethro Tull or King Crimson, I don't see why that would be something shameful.
I don't really listen much to artists that I feel embarrased about, maybe apart from one or two songs. For instance, I think Toxic with Britney Spears is kind of cool. Needless to say, Spears is pretty far from my average music taste.

OMG, what a queer!  He's likes POWER METAL! XD

Sorry, just kidding.  Up until a few days ago, I didn't even know what power metal was.  All I knew is that Pantera titled their very first album with that name, so that's what I thought it was.

Then a few days ago, I saw an article in the paper.  It was talking about the different types of metal.  There was biker metal, black metal, etc.  Then they talked about power metal.  They said these musicians made songs about things like wizards and barbarians, and stuff straight out of Tolkien (sp?).  They also showed this band (I don't remember the name) but it was a bunch of guys wearing loincloths.

I've always had an aversion to hard metal. It's just associated with so many bad things (Racial Hate Music, Crazy shit like that ) in my mind, but I'm sure I'm just making assumptions and labeling wrongly.

Jethro Tull? Who's he?    ;D

(Yes, that was a joke. I wonder how many will get it.)

On topic, I have VERY eclectic tastes in music, and will listen to bloody near anything except disco and country. Unless Eagles counts as country. I'm not really embarassed by anything I listen to except...well...okay, maybe a little about all those Disney movie soundtracks. <hides>

Bagpipe music. I'm not actually ashamed to admit it at all, but I tend not to play it much around other people. Still, I'm Nova Scotian, bagpipe is in my blood.

I'm a huge fan of Jethro Tull also, it was my love of their music that made me take up the Flute in high school band. They even did covers of Bouree and Pavane. I wanted to rock out on the flute as well... Alas, I sucked, and don't even know where my flute is anymore. Now I play the Guitar, Drums and Didjeridoo like everyone else.

But I digress (not at all uncommon for me). I don't listen to anything I wouldn't be willing to shout aloud that I like. At one point I liked Morning Musume, but I haven't heard anything of theirs that I was particularly interested in since "The Peace" in ages... and I think Katori Shingo did a much better version of that one, even. I also like other Japanese boy-bands like Smap, the Gospellers and Chemistry. I even sing their stuff in karaoke/in the shower. I used to be a bit embarrassed that I liked Puffy, back in 1999, but they seem to have become popular in the US now, too.

And anything 8-bit. Beep-beep, baby.

:o You LIKED The Peace? Grollllfff!!!! (that's supposed to be a vomity sound) I admit the tune was catchy, but have you ever seen the video ? That is the weirdest crap I've ever seen! That bathroom was WAY too clean...

I should throw in, even though they're popular, I'm embarassed to listen to Evanescence. It's kinda like the music fat 15 year old goth chicks who spend all day writing bad poetry in little leather bound notebooks with pentagrams on the cover about how much everyone hates them listen to... But it's awesome nonetheless...

Why would anyone be ashamed to listen to Power Metal? :P I love power metal...

I have a few songs that I'm embarassed to admit that I like. But as for artists, I actually like Avril *hides*

I also like Opera, but not all of it.

Hmmm. I'm not that big a fan of metal, but the concept of a bunch of freaked out dudes screaming "GANDAAAAALF!!!!" seems to me like it would rock on for ever-so-long... Do you suggest any groups??? PowerMan 5000 doesn't happen to be a power metal group, do they? I don't aks because of the name, but because their music videos remind me of real-life anime.

Avril!? XD

Well, I guess I'd rather listen to Avril than a bunch of buff sweaty dudes in loin cloths who refer to themselves as "Conan The Headbanger". XD

Sorry, just kidding.  I'll shut up now.

Manowar. I know Helm won't like it. he's the genre slave.

one thing I wish the world knew: metal does NOT equal screaming.

Also, not all power metal is about fantasy, and a lot of people I know consider power metal as "the positive metal". (a power metal band www.kamelot.com)

But anyway... Sometimes I get embarassed to admit when I like something that is far from metal.

esper

Okay, they are either screaming "GANDAAAALFFFF!!!" or growling "GGGOOLLLUUUMMM!!!!" Or just playing their music at such an intensity that every chord is blurred together and it doesn't sound like something I couldn't reproduce in my garage with a mildly annoyed cat duct taped inside a dishwasher. Thank you, Mr. Hyde, for that wonderful image. I now officially withdraw my initial query about names of power metal groups...

Wasn't he the guy who invented the first real harvester? Indeed :)

Speaking of Gandalf

or maybe this... this is the best one :D

And then there was this German group Gandalf established in '89 but can't find their page

Britney's Toxoc is one of mine too. I think the maker of that song has been listening to the Beatles, I can hear the influence in the chord changes... And people say it has a good video, but I haven't seen it... The song does have sme psychedelic things in it... But I never said I liked it, right?.... RIGHT??? OK
