As for me, I just hope you stop thinking that new people are for some reason hated by people who have been here longer. If anything it's the other way around! The people who have been here longer usually don't make any games and just sit around taking up all the spaces on the couch and scratching themselves... Places.

Just kidding of course, sometimes it's good to accept critics from people (if the critics are reasonable they help you improve, even if they're not reasonable, they may give you good opportunities to think about why people would think about it), everyone can have his own opinions, whether they're good to you or not, they're actually all helping you.

I think lots of people on AGS make a common mistake of thinking art can be "good" or "bad", when really, it is neither "good" nor "bad", only "popular" or "unpopular". There are the few whose opinions differ greatly, depending on whether they personally like it or not.
I suppose I'm one of those people, who think of "good" artwork as being "regular", and "regular" artwork as being "good". I just like buloght's style, personally, it's the best I've seen in adventure games.
But I like the picture that guy did on MS Paint (in the thread below), but I think Picasso's art looks like random scribbles.
I think this depends on how we look at it-some people see the overall picture, some people judge it on the feeling you get from looking at it, some people judge it on how realistic it is, some on how surrealistic it is, some on how original it is, some on how artistic or colorful it is...
Lots of different ways. That's why we all have different tastes.
I seem to have completely opposite opinions in art than most people on here. (Errr, no offense, buloght, your art really IS good.)
Ok, better stop rambling now and try to improve my OWN artwork... xD

Yeah, what's up with that? As an outsider, I've noticed that the people who seem to be the most popular and respected on these forums (and in the community in general) aren't necessarily the ones who have made the best games.

Well, being a good artist or popular doesn't mean that you hacve to be productive also. Productivity takes creativity and imaination at a very specific area, and maybe not all people can do that...

Not a big mystery. There's much respect for those who make great games. But the ones who are very socially active here are not always the same people. The forum is very much a social beast, not always and completely about the AGS games that are produced. Those who are charismatic are popular, like in any other internet community.
