Title: My DVD Collection... I am lame...
Post by: LordHart on Mon 05/04/2004 04:32:21
Okay, I am EXTREMELY bored, and can't get Counterstrike working here in the library and I have an hour until my next class... so I thought I'd start this up, just saying what DVDs I have... and thought others could list theirs. This has probably been done before, but who cares.

I'd post my DVD collection ... but it'd take FAR too long!

I have about 400 total.

I like my DVDs.

Edit - just FYI, we have a LOT of the same DVDs.  Good choices!

You all have lots of DVD's... How often do you actuall watch them all, though?  ???

I have like... 5 DVD's of my favourite movies, and I rarely watch them at all. (Though I also have the entire series of Deep Space Nine on dvd, but they were burnt).

400... nice. How long you been collecting them? I've only started getting them a few months ago, and i always blow my money on buying them, or lay-bying them if I can't get it then...

I have a policy of never buying something I can get for free or cheap.. like books and videos. I rent.

Red Dwarf Season I
Red Dwarf Season II
Red Dwarf Season III
Red Dwarf Season IV
Babylon V Season I
The Music Man
Fiddler on the Roof

And that's all so far...although I do plan on buying the rest of the Babylon series, and I have a few movies in mind, but I'm a very conservative spender, and usually buy books instead of DVD's. As can be seen, I prefer television shows to movies. And I lean towards science fiction. I'm also a fan of musicals, and while I do plan on buying some "regular" movies in the future, I won't until I have enough money to do so.

Umm... My DVD collection is over 1,000.

So the answer to your question is NO. I can't post my DVD collection.
Title: Re:My DVD Collection... I am lame...
Post by: shbaz on Mon 05/04/2004 05:18:22
TV shows are an exception.. I think when Simpsons and Futurama and some other TV series I really enjoy end I'd buy their seasons on DVD, because I don't think you can rent those and I'd actually re-watch those.

If I bought movies though, I'd be wasting my money because I'd watch it once, maybe twice, and never again.

Pretty much all I've got besides 5 or so budget DVDs that aren't in their list, I'll have to add them myself if I get hold of a scanner.

Edit: Old nick btw, I'll have to figure out how to change nicks there. DVDProfiler is a pretty handy site and you just have to enter the barcode back on a DVD to add one. Plus it's handy when someone wants to borrow from you.

Edit2: I own a lot of crap ones. I apologise for "Ninja Scroll". I truly am sorry.

Wow how do you have money to have 400 or 1000 DVDs??  :o

Here's my collection:
The Fellowship of the Ring - Extended Version
The Two Towers
Pirates of the Carribean
Planet of the Apes
Dune (the Sci-Fi Channel Miniseries)
Minority Report
Red Dragon
American Pie 2
Matrix
Matrix Reloaded
Matrix Revolutions
Back to the Future - the Trilogy
Indiana Jones - the trilogy

I don't have a lot of money right now so I usually buy DVDs that are cheaper cos they are older or buying DVDs out of rents (costs like 12$-15$) but the movies I really love I buy even though they are very expensive like hthe LOTR extended and the BTTF and Indy trilogies.
As for geting for free - well I like to have all movies & TV shows that I like on tape\DVD\VCD\Computer CDs so I can always watch them again. So no to rent. And you can download movies from the net but the movies you really love - DVD is always better quality. And what about the extras?  I love extras!

I have a total of two.

Fellowship of the Ring Extended.

Two towers Extended.

I, like shabz, have a policy of "If it's not free, it's not worth getting." So I have friends with millions of DVD's, and I'll scab if I need to.

The only reason I bought lotr is because I love Cate Blanchett (she's Aussie!), Liv Tyler (coz she's Liv...duh!) and Howard Shore (the music composer. Okay. Maybe I don't loooove him...) I will buy rotk extended, and then I will forever end my dvd collection.

Until they make hobbit....

Well it's interesting to see what other people have, and it also mignt give you some ideas of movies you want that you haven't thought of.

That's the way I see it anyway

So people can brag about the size of their DVD collection, ofcourse!

And you can see someone has the same movie, and start talking about it and stuff ._. or something

Let me see... Here's the collection I have in my bedroom, but I have more in the dinning room. If they're here, is because I think they're more interessant for me than for a familiar audience. The classification (a hard day's night as an Adventure film?), can be discussed...

War films.
The complete "Band of Brothers" series.
Saving private Ryan.
Blackhawk down.
Pearl Harbour (it's about war, love, how to do an inncacurate historical film?)
(Looking for the thin red line)

Adventure films:
Pirates of the Caribbean.
LoTR I.
Matrix.
X-men.
Resident evil.
Deep blue sea.
The Rock.
The recruit.
A hard day's night.
Indy Trilogy.
Gladiator, But Lorena has it now...

Miscellania (Drama/Thriller/Comedy...)
The usual suspects.
Dancing with wolves.
Fight club.
As good as it gets.
Analyze this.
There's something about Mary.

Rather small, surreal collection, here:

Bought myself:

Akira
A Better Tomorrow
Glengarry Glen Ross (which I stupidly bought without checking the back of the box; it's in pan & scan and has no special features.  Cracking film nonetheless)
The Man Who Wasn't There
End of Evangelion
Road To Perdition
Rollerball Special Edition (original, natch)
Straw Dogs
Witchfinder General

Recieved as presents:

Macross Plus Ultimate Edition
Metropolis (anime version)
Planet of the Apes (original; still haven't bothered to watch the damn thing, as I'd already seen it a couple of times)
The Spiral Staircase

400... nice. How long you been collecting them?
I got my first DVD player late '97 but DVDs weren't very available.  Wasn't until mid to late '98 when I really started collecting.

I have over 500 VHS movies (a lot of which I have repeated on DVD).

One Star Wars comes out in Sept. on DVD I will finally feel like my collection is complete!  (and LotR: RotK).

I used to work at Blockbuster Video (a video rental place to those who might not know!) so that helped me with my addiction.

I have a bigger collection of Video Games (over 60 PS2 games, about 70 PS1 games, 4 GC games, 10 Dreamcast games) than i do movie DVD's.

But i have bought a few DVD's to watch on my Playstation 2.

1. One Hour Photo
2. Austin Powers in Goldmember
3. Analyze This
4. Titanic

not too shabby for a start, huh.  ;D

There's a somewhat communal DVD pit with my brother, so if I were to list the DVD's that are in my room, it'd only represent a small portion of what we buy, and to list those in his room would take days. Suffice it to say the range is broad and varied.

One interesting point is that between us we own some 130 hours of animation, from Futurama and the Family Guy, to the Clerks animated series, to The Iron Giant to NGE to every film made by Ghibli.

If you had noticed... I stated that I was extremely bored. :-\

Anyway, i'm amazed that many people have the same tastes in movies I do. Hardly any of my friends like the same movies as me, and I mostly have the same tastes as their older brothers, because we like old 80's stuff (music, movies, the fashion :P).

Forgot another one as well, Fight Club... my god, I love this movie. :)

QuoteUmm... My DVD collection is over 1,000.

Is that 1000 disks, or 1000 titles? Cause I know I've seen several cheap packaged horror films, with like ten movies for five dollars. Just wondering, because 1000 does seem like a fairly big selection.
