Title: My flash game.
Post by: vict0r on Wed 23/05/2007 15:52:15
Some of you might remember that I asked for help with actionscripting and stuff some time ago. I've been working on a game for about 5 weeks in a school without any form for actionscript background. To be honest, it's been quite the bitch to first learn this and then make a game with the ambitions i had but now it's finished! :)

I am very grateful to fred from these forums for helping me out with the scripting. So please people, give an applause to this man.

And to the game. Have in mind that this is my first game, and the first time I've worked with actionscript, so it is quite buggy.
Knock yourself out! (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/379668)

Well, its not like a awesome game, but its a little fun. The idea looks good. The adition of some more gameplay elements and game lengh could make it interesting. A dead animation could be good since its weird how your guy is just teleported back to start then he dies. Also you should add something to only lauch the get patch at the second press of up, as currently he lauches it imediatly then he ends the first jump what makes hard to control the lauching time.

Perhaps it's because I'm on a laptop, but the arrow keys do not move/jump the character.  I don't know much about Actionscript but I assume there's some pretty universal ASCII keycodes involved -any idea what I (or you) might have done wrong?

@manored: Thanks. If you just press the jump button, you'll be able to control it better if I understood your problem correctly! :)

@BaRoN: Huuh?! :-\ It might be your laptop keys that don't match the "numbers" of regular keyboards.. But I'm just guessing here! I've played it on a laptop so I don't know what's wrong...  :-\ Thanks for trying tho! :)

I somehow found a secret level that just keeps teasing me with a message "omg secret level"

But then no level   :(

Doesn't load for me. That stick-man comes up, title appears fades out and that's it. I tried it through richt-clicking and skipping etc. but won't work.

dkh, I think you just have to wait for the game to load, at least that's what worked for me.

I just finished the demo and I must admit that I quite enjoyed it. Very fun to play. I'm looking forward to the full game. I just didn't get this 's' key thing. Is the stickman turning to water then and can therefore avoid the flames? It never worked for me though. I somehow managed to jump my way around them. Maybe having an extra key for the rocket would be nice, too, since it happened quite a number of times that I accidentally went into rocket mode.
Apart from that, a wonderful little game.

Btw, I veto a deatch animation. I died so many times while playing this demo that an extra animation everytime would get me bored and frustrated pretty quickly. I like it the way it is.

Keep up the good work!

Oh, I see. It just took sooo long. In that case, a loading message is a must.

EDIT: 1st level was easy, 2nd one seems impossible?

What the? I'm almost certain I had a loading screen.. Now that I check, I am certain that I had a loading screen. But when I check the newgrounds version, it's gone... :P Sorry about that! There were supposed to be one..

@Evenwolf: Hah! That is the secret level.. :P

@Venus: Thanks a bunch! :) The "s" thing dematerializes him until he reaches ground again. I doubt I'll add a death animation as I've seen how much people die. I also had life, but due to impossible bugs and a deadline approaching fast I had to ditch it for the demo. I doubt that it will return to an potential full version tho as I've seen how much people die on each level and placing them back on level one will probably not make them play any more of the game. :P

@dkh: Glad it worked. On the second level, jump half the way and then use the buttrocket. :)

Ah, okay. I didn't realize you could press twice. I though you had to hold it down - this way the rocket activates too, but too early to reach the other side. Just finished the demo, was nice, although it could use a little bit more polishing (at more levels of course). :)

Completed it. Really liked it. Needs expanding though obviously :P

Neat!  The only problem I saw is that the double jump kicks in sometimes by just pressing up, but inserting some kind of delay before pressing up again will activate the rocket should fix it.    Nice work!

@progZmax: Thanks! The rocket only works when the char is moving down while in the air but as you noticed, it's quite sensitive so it may go off at the wrong places. :P

Thanks alot everyone! :) I'm glad you like it!

9 words: If it's not made with AGS, I don't care.

Just kidding. It's short...and annoyingly loud sound effects. Wonderful game. :=
