I am having a sound problem with "Night of the Hermit".

I can heard the characters voice but it sounds very choppy and distorted.

How can I fix this?

                                         Thanks

Hi, don't worry we'll have this sorted out real quick.

Do you know the specifications of your computer? Processor speed, amount of ram, which version of Windows you have, that sort of thing? Some AGS games need reasonably good specs to run well.

Can you play other AGS games with voices? And can you play digital music files (mp3 etc.) just from Windows?

It's probably a DirectX problem though, it usually is. Did you try altering your digital sound options in the Setup file for the game?

Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+,  MMX,  3DNow, ~2.0GHz

Memory: 1024MB RAM

Page File: 405MB used, 2054MB available

DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

Soundcard: Realtek AC97 Audio (driver date 11/23/2006)

Videocard: NVIDIA GeForce 6600

Music files play fine.

I notice that when I play Apprentice 1 Deluxe sometimes the voice sound is clear.  And other times it sounds crackly in the background.

The sound seems fine when I play Jessica Plunkenstein and the Dusseldorf Conspiracy.

Also I did try changing the digital sound options in the Setup file, but still had the problem.

In "Night of the Hermit" basically whenever someone talks it choppy and crackly.  The game music is clear and sounds fine.

voh

Isn't Night of the Hermit a DOS AGS game? If so, DOSbox might be your answer.
Still here.
