Title: My own animation...
Post by: Wormmaster on Sun 06/06/2004 14:05:34
Well, I did some animations, and I want to show one of them to you.

Damn it, it won't show!
What was that Invis thing again?

What happened? Did they show, but not animate? Try fiddling around with the animation properties. Or did they just not appear? Some hosts don't allow direct-linking, I suggest using http://www.imageshack.us/ .

um.. not sure how to respond to that. what is it for? you need to actually draw some characters. Stickmen won't satisfy anyone. is it for a game?

Yes, but the difference is the actual animation.

I haven't seen all the links you put, but I know Joe Zombie, Xiao Xiao & Counter-Stick have good animation to......er...........'make up' for the lack of actual human looking characters.

See, your figures do not move, they do not have energy. To improve your animation, I would advise making them wave their arms around a little, or they could do a little dance or something, just to start off with. Then, you can move on up - make the zombie actually attack the others, etc etc.

Also, the stick figures in any flash stick figures I have seen are based loosely on real people. By that, I mean the figure composition is fairly accurate - if you compare your characters to real people, you will see the necks on yours are too long, the legs are too short, & the arms have varying lengths. You should try to make them look a little more human - perhaps a little exaggerated, but still in proportion mostly.

Good luck! I look forward to what you come up with in the future.

trhatss what i meant. I have nothing against stick men. IN fact i hat e anything that is not a stickman. What I meant was that it wasn't really an animation it was just a series of pictures put in a sequence. Make the stickmen like characters and use some imagination!

It's fourth part of Stickmen-series.
Another parts are so crappy, that you won't like to see them, but if you REALLY want to see them, tell it!

Pffft, anyone who makes animations or games with stickmen really shows they have no actual talent.

Say that to Robert DenBleyker, who has created Joe Zombie and to Zhu_Zhu, who has created Xiao Xiao.

In fact, I hate you. :P

Um worm, why the crap did you use Jesus in that? Not only do I think that is the worst storyline ever, I feel your dissing on religeon which is not cool. Why not post that in general? This forum is for works that need help, not people.

oh blah lost traveler, if he doesn't share your religious views he shouldn't be yelled at for it. would you feel bad if he used Buddha or Zeus? Or is it just Jesus?

anyways.

are you asking for help Wormmaster? Because if not then I will move these to Gen Gen so you can post more.

I accept other's beliefs, I just dont like people personally dissing on others beliefs tho. If he did it to anyother deity and or holy person I still would have posted those exact words. He didnt have to have Jesus cussing and pissing his pants. He could of made up a new character.

Simon Voice: That was utterly utterly horrible. Why do you even try? Am I supposed to believe these stickmen are actually real.. And that I can read these sentence fragments you put on the screen. Total and utter tripe, I tell you.. This is ridiculous.. I'm leaving!

Anyway.. I love DGMacphee. God bless 'im

And to not leave so bitterly.. I would say, that you have the heart.. But GIF movies are so 90's.. You should learn flash.. And better English.. Then maybe you'll have better luck.

Um... Ok...

Anyways, I recommend you learn Flash because a Flash file doing what you're doing Wormmaster would be about 32kb and what you have going now is over 200kb and it takes a long time to load

Flash hmmph, AVI for life!

Ya flash is great and very easy to learn.
Your most recent movie has really nice credits, put that much animation into the action and it would be nice. When animating dont worry how long it takes, worry about the quality. It takes years to make 2 hour movies, it should take longer then an hour to make 45 seconds.

Now I must ignore that.
My films take only 6-31kb.

Maybe you should look at the newest animation you made it's 271 kb

Okay, I thought I'd take some time to show you what people like Zootyfruit, LostTraveler and veryweirdguy have been trying to tell you. So I took an hour out of my time to try creating a sample stick-figure animation.

I've never done any kind of walking animations before, and this was kind of a little bit of timeout from working on my main character sprite for the AGS game I'm working on. So here it is:

Now here's a few tips:
o Firstly, note the animation as the character 'walks' to the beach. I've also done a few simple animations of the background, but if you're going to do this well, you'll want to spend more time making the backdrop more dynamic.
o There's a very helpful tutorial at http://www.idleworm.com/how/anm/02w/walk1.shtml on how to create walk cycles for your characters. For the animation above, I only used the four key frames pointed out, since by the very nature of stick-figures, there's not much distinguishing between both parts of the cycle.
o You need to concentrate less on getting your credits across and more on getting the message you want to convey across. Stick-figure animation, or indeed any kind of story telling, relies on getting the message across to your target audience. You'll notice that in my animation above, after every speaking frame, there is a long pause to allow the viewer to fully comprehend what is going on in the animation. A good trick is to imagine that you're seeing your own animation for the first time. How much time would you need to read the messages you're trying to convey?
o You might also benefit from using a drawing progam that supports the use of image layers. Image layers are a wonderful tools that allow you to separate say, a chracter from its backdrop, and move them about independantly of one another.
o Finally, try spending a little more time making the objects in your animations just a little bit realistic. I spent just under an hour drawing all of the objects in the animation you see above and animating them, but it's easy to see what they are. It wasn't so easy to see in your most recent animation what that green thing was lying on the ground.

Anyway, overall, the animation was quite good, and I look forward "Zombies Revenge to Mankind Part 3" having some better animation. And perhaps some AGS games in the future?

Nice.

I'm now downloading Flash.
I have been reading Flash manuals these few days, and it won't take long from me to release my first flash-cartoon: SUPER-STICKMAN!!!

Be patient....
