Title: My second transcribed song
Post by: Vel on Sun 16/05/2004 10:53:11
I recently transcribed a song by Asia, Arena. If you want to look at the chords, please do so. (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Arena.doc)
If you know the song and you are a musician, please try to play it and tell me if anything's wrong with the chords.

I downloaded the song. I'll see if I can play it tomorrow, cos It's getting a bit late now. I've never heard of asia before, I think I might download some of their albums. They sound pretty cool.

Their only real big hits were in mid80s, "heat of the moment", "Don't cry" and "only time will tell". Nevertheless they are still making music - their new album will be released in July. A thing I find really cool is that all their albums start and end with "a" AsiA AlphA AstrA AurorA AquA AriA ArenaA ArchivA AurA ^_^

Well I was only in the 80's for 4 years so I don't really remember much that happened.
Yeah i noticed that with the AxxA thing when checking them out. That is pretty cool.

Damn, I can't find the song anywhere.

Vel, if you have it, could you upload it to a server temporary so I could download it?

Well I've had a chance to play it. Most of it sounds right.
In the intro it should be something like this: D C D Cx C  Em  (x4) Where Cx is a C with the pinky on the 3rd fret. I think its still called a C, but you should differentiate from the normal C.

In the chorus and in the verse When it goes D D C, It seems a bit wrong, especially with the C. I found it sounded a bit better by blaying a D and alternating between open-2nd and 3rd fret, on the e string. It didnt sound exact but I think it worked better than the C bit.

I'm not the best person at working out chords for songs, so yeah its hard to find the right chords, but yours are pretty good.

HillBilly: I found it on DC++, but I'm sure you can find it somewhere on kazza, tho when I tried it I couldnt find it.

Auhsor: Thats exactly what I mean on the intro with the repetition of C, although I play the piano, not the guitar.
On the chorus, the first time you play Em C D D C(short length)Em
and the second time without the second C.
Thanks for the feedback.
I tried to find Arena on kazaa, it was there, after 5 minutes of searching.

Edit: It got published by www.ultimate-guitar.com ^_^:

Auhsor,

It's called a C9, where being that added note is a 'D' above the C, which from the root is 9 step above.  It could also, in some circles, becalled a '2' As in a C2, but generally a chord with a interval like that is called a '9'th chord.
;D

Thanks for that. I'm sure it did have some special name, I tried it in guitar pro, and it just said it was a C. I've only taught myself guitar over a few years, so I dont really know all of the theory stuff. I just play it.

Vel, I'll get aroung to playing it soon. I should have the song now cos I did download a heap of Asia stuff.

Hmm I just replyied and the forum ate my post... oh well.
I had a play through it. I had to look up some of those funny chords but they were right, when I got them. That Ab C D chord thingy is an Ab/5- according to Guitar Pro. If you played guitar it wouldve been nice to tab the chords but it doesnt matter.

The only problem I could find was in the bridge. From what I was playing, it should go like: Ab Eb Fm Ab Bb, and it sounds alot better. Good work with the transcription tho.
