Title: My Sim, Lionel Richie, has died
Post by: Obi on Thu 21/06/2007 01:35:08
In the Sims 2, Lionel Richie and his wife, a maid which Lionel had once hired, died in mysterious circumstances today. The Grim Reaper took them away and then decided to watch the telly (telly is english for TV which is an acronym for Television). Lionel is suvived by his sons Lionel Richie Jnr and Lionel Richie Jnr and three famous dogs, Jerry, Grahhjfh and Maxx. I'm sure like me, you'll miss Lionel very much so. We still have his music and his crazy dancing to remember.

Edit by Andail: Changed title

uh if Lionel Ritchie actually died  what would your subject line read?

I just had the following conversation with my friend.

"Damn, Lionel Richie died!"
"Damn."
"Wait... no he hasn't. Disregard, cocks (http://bash.org/?5775) etc."

I imagine if I cared more about Lionel Richie I'd be a tad distressed by the misleading topic. Otherwise, my condolences to you at this sad time. My own sim got wiped accidentally... which is just as well, he'd been keeping his girlfriend locked in a doorless room for a loooong time.

.....What? She refused to marry me so into the dungeon she went.

EDIT: Yeah, despite digressing into a conversation about The Sims I did originally want to post to express my distaste, particularly because - as Disco is about to say - I usually expect things on this board to be true and especially over serious matters.

I must say as a fan that I do not find the subject the least bit amusing. Perhaps it is my fault I was tricked into thinking that a favourite singer had passed since I don't make a habit of double-checking on a board where the notably deceased are usually honoured with a thread. The fact that you are not a fan should not give you license to title threads misleadingly like that. This isn't my board, so I guess just enjoy this morbid, insensitive shock thing you have going on.

that's just the thing though, Obi really is a big fan of Lionel Richie. he's even been making family and friends Lionel Richie themed greetings cards.
i was actually speaking to Obi at the time that Lionel passed away, unfortunately he had been playing the game at the fastest speed and not taking notice of his status bars and unfortunately it seems as though he starved to death.

And besides, people dying is just about the funniest thing around... Except when they die in gruesome, yet hilarious ways...

I had only read the title before I woke my father up to tell him Lionel Richie was dead.  Boy, was my face red!

Next time someone asks me what over reacting means, I'll link them to this thread.

Next time somebody has to ask you what overreacting means you should seriously consider your choice of company. ;)

I think it's poor taste to post a topic title like that ... however, this is the internet and that's the kind of shit that happens.  People don't realize that just because something isn't important to them it might be important to others.  Or they do realize and just don't give a shit and/or think it's funny.  There's really nothing to be done about it.  It goes back to Andail's recent thread about this very topic.

I've reached a point where, when I read an upsetting title like that, I wait to read the content before accepting it to be true (and even after reading the content, I still try to find evidence that it's true elsewhere just in case ... again, this IS the interwebs after all).

Meh ... such is life in this increasingly digital world we inhabbit.  At least the title is now a bit more descriptive about what the topic is actually about.

A long time ago when I was high school and played the Sims a few times, I recreated the three main members of the Blue Öyster Cult, and they lived in a very nice house together. I don't remember what Eric Bloom and Allen Lanier did, but Buck Dharma became a successful politician.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your Sim.

Also sorry to hear about how upset people are about the original title of the thread.  Gee, don't bother to open it and see what it is, or check the news, or even Google it to see if it really happened.

Of course we opened it. How else did we comment on it? It's the initial feeling of seeing that subject line, it's the only information given to us at that exact moment.

I am not offended by this, however having spent alot of time talking to obi, I understand his sense of humour. I don't really think this was in poor taste, as Lionel Richie Isn't actually dead.

Are the results of an autopsy back yet? Maybe he didn't starve to death, maybe he was poisoned or something? Where were you on the moment he died, when did you find him?

Did your Sim at least have a slutty daughter that resembles a skeleton?

I played sims once.
I played it for, say, an hour? Then I got tired, so I cheated to get money, stuffed the house with chairs and lit the fireplace and told the people to sit down. Then I laughed alittle until I understood what I just did, which led me to throw the whole game in the bin.

From the vaults of Penny Arcade.

However, I must admit that I'm a bit of a fan of the game. I can't play it with true determination as I can put into other games...*coff*Neverwinter Nights*coff*, but it's amusing for the occasional hour a month.
I never grew so attached to one of the virtual peeps that IÃ,,d mourn his or her death on a forum, though.

I've never played The Sims, but couldn't you just revert to an older save game when a character dies?

IIRC the Sims doesn't have saved game slots. It's been a while.

The houses ARE the save games, so the only way to make something "unhappen" is leave a house without saving. In that case you return to the house and everything is "reset" to the point where you last entered the house, or simpler, your last play time did not happen.

The Campus add on allows you to phone hell if you buy some reward thing and bring a sim back as a zombie, though.

Oh heck, I AM a geek, ain't I?

Possibly. Yes.

I know it's fashionable to hate the Sims, but I really, really do.

At least Singles has some polygonal T+A. And I hate Singles. I really, really do.

...

Although I hate the Sims more.

Singles has nicer features than just nudity, such as the AI remembering schedules, like if you keep making a single take a bath each day at 8pm after a few in-game days they'll remember and do it automatically, but they'll also remember if you change it so they take a shower instead on a thursday at 6pm, which is pretty neat.
i also like the way you have to actually develop a relationship by talking about the other person's interests rather than just talking to them.
i'm hoping they add difficulty levels to The Sims 3 so that kids can play the basic game and adults can play a more advanced version, it would be fun.

I never got past the aformentioned polygonal nudity.

No, I lie, I played it for it bit. But, like The Sims, the repetition made me lose interest.

Norks or no norks, this kind of game just doesn't do anything for me.

Although, at least Singles only cost me 0.99c.

Rest In Peace for your Sim, but Dancing On The Ceiling can be quite dangerous.

I thought Sims on the PS2 was quite accurate. I put myself and my parents into a house just like mine (Which also conviently happens to be a bungalow in a game that only had 1 floor for a house), and my mum went straight onto the toilet, I went into my room and played games, and my dad sat down and put the telly on. All by themselves! Uncanny!

Meanwhile my brother was living with Tuvok, and Captain picard was getting jealous...

yeah I was always sad when my Sims died too.

With Sims 1 I once had a sim named Steven Kings. He was very succesfull as an astronaut. He had lots of friends. Then he fell in love with that balding cubby guy from the tutorial house. They adobted a boy. After months of playing they suddenly dropped that, all of them. Quite sad really  :'(

Maybe I shouldn't of let them eat outside in winter times.
