Ahoi there!
I just started working on my first game ... for the tenth timeÃ, ;) . Anyway, I was looking for a good working title, and thought "The Thule Deception" sounded kinda good. There's just one question: How do you pronounce Thule (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thule)? Is it "Thewl", or "Tooly", or what? Not, that it's really important - I just want to konw.
Thanks!Ã, :)
I would say it as Thewl/Thool. Any other way of saying it just feels wrong.
I'd probably go for a more 'you' like 'u' sound than 'Thool', I'd also happily hear it pronounced with a 't' sound rather than a 'th'. That might be a little odd, but wouldn't jar.
EDIT: I din't see the wiki, and didn't realise that Thule was a 'real' place. I thought you were asking for suggestions on how an invented word might be pronounced. Never mind!
If you actually read the wiki that you link to, you would find this:
QuoteRegarding pronunciation Joanna Kavenna writes that the name has been pronounced most frequently as Thoolay rather than Thool. "Poets rhymed Thule with newly, truly and unruly, but never, it seemed, with drool."
Tahooly
From that wiki page "..the name has been pronounced most frequently as Thoolay rather than Thool. "
So, Thoolay.
edit: sorry, GarageGothic, didn't notice your post.
"Most frequently as" does not say Thoolay is correct. It says it's more common. Thool and Thoolay are both acceptable and correct.
By the way, rhyming Thoolay with newly doesn't make sense. Then it would have to be Thooly ;)
So, what do you imply? - That I should read the stuff that I link to?Ã, ;D
Ooops ... I feel dumb. If you don't mind, I'll continue banging my head against that brick wall.
Thanks a dozen! :)
