Title: Need Advice? Then "Ask Da Orcs"...
Post by: suncrafter on Sat 07/02/2009 21:51:11

;D "Ask Da Orcs" ---> http://www.orcmagazine.com/ORC_MAGAZINE/Ask_Da_Orcs.html

It's an advice column written by Orcs! (Orcs are the green-skinned monsters from "Lord of the Rings") It's like "Dear Abby", but... er... with Orcs.

I'd much rather post all my problems on this forum and get the guys here to answer them... Rather than some bloke pretending to be an orc.

Same with me.
One thing is getting advice and other thing is wheter you take it seriously or not - and that depends on who are you getting it from, some no-one internet people or people who you know at least to that extent that you take advice from them seriously.

One should ask questions for the fun of it not to get a serious answer. And most of the answers by "Sgt. Groptoph" and "Gix" (the three word Gremlin) are good for a laugh...

QuoteDear "My Sister's Brother":
Here, at the university where I teach, researchers have created an incredible device that is capable of magnifying objects 136,000,000%. This amazing device utilizes a series of concave crystal lenses to make incredibly small objects visible. Even objects as small as 1,000,000th the size of a speck of dust can be seen with it! However, even with the help of such a device, you would still not be able to see how very little I care about your problem.
     Sincerely,
Prof. Pizpoploop

This is the only response I read that I thought was funny :P

I prefer to ask a ninja (http://www.askaninja.com).

The problem with the orcs site is that it doesn't know if it wants to be funny or not.
The girls especially seem to be treating as "serious advice, but with green make-up".

I think the corners of my mouth twitched once or twice. There's worse stuff out there, but I won't bookmark.

I found this incredibly pointless and stupid  :(

I am going to be hypocrital, doing preciselly what I am going to ask you to do, but, guys... Why, if you don't like a thread, simply ignore it? If you reply, even for saying, "it sucks" more people will join the debate, maybe the guy who started the thread might want to deffend its initial post... So, what you did not want, a stupid (in your opinion) thread gets the first position in gen gen for weeks.

(Not specifically related to this post, suncrafter... I am just thinking aloud about some posting procedures...)

You know Nacho, this is called "General discussion". If there's no critique, there's not much discussion. And why shouldn't this be the #1 Thread in case people are interested in it? As you said yourself: Just don't reply...

But I agree to the others: It's a very stupid website. I read some more and came to the conclusion: The more serious answers are pointless while the less serious answers aren't funny..

That' s the point, matti... People doesn' t find those posts interesting, helpfull or funny, they just reply to a thread that was the 5th or 6th position, reviving it, for saying: "This sucks".

I' ve seen that in 3 or 4 threads, I don't want to annoy suncrafter focusing this discussion in this thread, for me this post "suitable"... But that (Reviving something that was almost in page 2 just for saying "This sucks") happened before, and it' s quite unconsequent.

You've got a point there, you know. If you don't like a thread and think it's just going to turn into a flamewar... just ignore it. The issue at hand is, however, that we don't like what the thread is about (too much) - there's a difference, you know. Last time I checked, this part of the Intarwobs didn't have a "ignore everything you don't like" policy. A forum is, by its very definition, a place dedicated to the exchange of opinions, which is precisely what we're doing here.

And now, let's return to bashing this poor fellow's favourite humor site.  OMG HOW CAN THEY DAER TO USE COMIC SNAS!!!1!11! :=

Who cares if direction of initial thread reversed? Anything can be first, either so noteworthy or so bad.

So, suncrafter attempted a weeks-long-first thread "I cannot believe how cool this site is"-
So it reversed-
What's so bad about being a weeks-long-first thread "I cannot believe how stupid this site is"-

?

It's general opinion. When people join hands and agree on something, that something deserves attention, I think.

That's why I said that my advise shouldn' t be directly focused into this thread, but as a general rule that every member should have in mind... This one is resulting into something quite funny, actually...  :)

Well, at least there's a discussion. It'd be extremely boring if everyone would just post the same opinion of how funny it is. We should probably approach the orcs on this matter :)

Nacho, why do you always have to bring religion to every simple thread you see on general discussion?

Miguel, why do you have such a summer-esque avatar in the middle of the winter?

It's summer down under matti. Never forget the Southern Hemisphere.

On topic... I never actually visited the site to be honest. I was making funnies about the fact people who have real and not so real problems ask people in internet forums who they don't know for advice.

Or maybe they just like drawing attention to themselves...

Woo-hoo... I'm over here!!

Listen to me!!!

I'm important too!!!

I made Dickboy! Hooray for the p3n1sh gmyae!

Well I was very tired yesterday and did forget that it could be warm down there but Portugal is NOT part of the southern hemisphere, that's for sure.

And I'm not eurocentric enough to forget the southern hemisphere.

Orcs are only useful for XP.

matti, actually the weather it's pretty crappy around where I leave right now. Still there's no comparison with the harsh winters over central and northern Europe.
My new avatar symbolizes the sun, the ocean, and swimming with naked girls.

Layabout, Portugal sits proud at the far south-west of Europe since 1143 after we beat the living shit out of the Spanish!

Yeah, I know where Portugal is. I was just pointing out that it is summer somewhere in the world.
