how do i go about exctacting files from abandoned games?

If it's an AGI game (KQ1, Goldrush) you can use AGIStudio.

If it's SCI (KQ4, SQ3, PQ2) you can use SCIStudio.

If it's a LEC game, I'm sure there are programs I know nothing of.

If it's none of these and you really need them, you can use PrtScr.

Uhh...yeah.... there is also Scumm Revisted 2 (I think it is the newest version) for LucasArt games.
There is also sdv for the later Sierra games

SDV is very, very, very iffy. If you go that route, be prepared for the real eventuality of not fulfilling your goal.

Scumm Revisited also has a version 3 alpha and a version 5 pre-release.

There most likely won't be another edition/release of ScummRevisited... the "pre release of 5" is most likely the final. It's just an unfinished release.

i have heard of SDV and as Rui said, it is a little iffy. I have never used it myself but friends have said its pretty shit.

If you are just going to remake and old classic with exactly the same graphics, the same
plot etc. Its not all that top secret cause as soon as you give us the name we might just
want to play the non buggy released classic.
