Title: Need some ambient tune for school project
Post by: Andail on Fri 09/01/2004 09:44:39
Does anybody know where I can come across some nice background music that has some sort of stoneage theme?
We're gonna do a lecture on heiroglyphs, petropglyphs, runes and similar, and need some ambient track in the background.
So if you have something please help me out.

Play hi-fi (or lo-fi, if you don't have cable)

It's some 13th century English music. To me, track 5 on that album sounds like something you'd want.

You can only pay for the music if you have a credit card or PayPal. But if you aren't too concerned with quality, you could just save the streaming mp3 as a wav (and then encode it again, if necessary, but quality would suffer). Or I could do it for you. Not that it would be legal, though...

I can recommend the classical section of that site.
There's lots of other interesting "early" music there.

If your soundcard doesn't have this option built-in, I'm sure there are programs that let you record anything that goes through the soundcard output.

On my computer, I go to the volume mixer thingy, and choose "What U Hear" [sic] for recording, instead oft he default "Microphone". Then I just open my favourite sound editing program, press record and play the tune in whatever program I feel like listening to the song in.

Just play some Enya in the background.

DG is right... there is no need to use ancient music, just something which sounds "old"...

I would strongly recommend the Jurassic Park soundtrack, some "not very know" pieces of it, if you put the "dino´s" music it could sound ridiculous.

There are also some other classical pieces used in films, some of them in prehistoric scenes (2001, space odyssey), or some music used in thrillers, which can give the athmosphere you´re looking for. I remember one song used in "The shining" I can´t remeber it´s name, but it was terrific.

Maybe it´s the 6th track.

Hey Farlander, why not use 13th century English music if the bands you suggest are simply inspired by 13th century English music?

It's not like the music Ghormak linked to was actually recorded six centuries ago.   :)

Sure... I was not saying that your option, or Ghormak´s option is worst than mine, I just pointed where can Petter look for if he can´t find "real" old music.
