Nes is the first nintendo console. Snes is the sequel so it's much better.

The nes controler gave me blisters on my hands.
The snes controler too...

FruitTree

a SNES it is...
I'm still in doubt though, how about this:
SNES or SEGA MEGADRIVE?

Kinoko

Jesus christ man, a SNES!!! It's my all-time most loved console. You can get Breath of Fire II, Final Fantasy II (US), Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma, Lufia II... I mean, it's no competition!

The NES is fantastic though, I'd get both. Where are you getting these from anyway?

jasonjkay

nintendo has always been better than sega in my view. Why dont you get a N64? They should be pretty cheap.

Yes, indeed - If you don't get a SNES you're... A non-owner of a SNES! Ah-hah! Foiled rings round ya with logic! So now buy it. Don't even consider a Sega.

And no, I'm not just being frantic becuase I was rasied with a SNES, it really, really is a great console. Seriously. (RPG's were better on SNES. It's a fact.)

SNES! It's like the best console available.

The only thing really cool about Sega Genesis is Sonic the Hedgehog, but you could always just get an emulator for that.

Al_Ninio

I had a Sega Genesis when I was little.
I kept wishing I could trade it for a SNES.

CoffeeBob

Well, I would buy a Mega Drive since I've already got SNES. But since you've got neither one of them, pick SNES.
But if you're a hardcore Sonic-fan, get an MD.

I had a NES and a Mega Drive, personally I loved them both.Ã,  If I had to pick SNES or Mega Drive, I'd pick Mega Drive. NES or mega drive... NES probably.

edmundito

I'd say SNES, just because it had much polished versions of NES games, except for Mario 3. Oh wait, it was re-released on the SNES as super mario all-stars!

I had a Genesis (aka Mega Drive) and it was alright, but I had it at a time when I didn't have any money to buy games for it.

Privateer Puddin'

I gave FT a megadrive emulator (well two..) but it didn't work sadly. I had a megadrive and not once did i want to swap it for a SNES (not that i knew that the SNES existed at the time)

Oh! I remember the whole story of why I ended up with a Genesis:

I remember it was my birthday, or some important holiday where I got to pick my present, and we (Mom, Dad, and I) went to this store to buy me a console. The NES was hugely popular and the SNES and Genesis had just gotten to Venezuela and no one in the neighborhood had them yet.

This generic store didn't care on wether I would buy one console or the other, so they conected both to a TV for me to try with Super Mario World and Sonic the Hedgehog. Now, never seeing a SNES or Genesis before that and trying out those games, which would you choose? The fat, lazy plumber who dies when he gets hits by a walking mushroom or a blue hedgehog on steroids? I went for the hedgehog, which is exactly what sega wanted people to do!

So, eventually, everyone in my neighborhood bought Genesis. There is one kid who bought a Super Nintendo, and I still talk to him online these days...

My Genesis apparently got stolen when I moved to the United States, along with a pirated Famicom I got as a gift later.

Go with the SNES and get the following games: Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and Zelda: A Link to the Past.

Trust me, you cannot go wrong with the above.

Indeed. :) It is truly impossible to 'go wrong' with them. Unless he hates RPG's.

Should I buy an apple or an orange?

They all have their advantages. I've had the good fortune to have used each one extensively for most of my childhood.
NES with Mario, Zelda, and Contra- fun, but the graphics will probably get too much in the way today
SNES- Link to the Past. Yup. The one reason to get SNES. However, you might want to skip it if you don't like RPGs.
Sega (was the Megadrive called Genesis? Never heard of this before)- Sonic the Hedgehog

I personally have a lot of ol' favourites on the Sega. Stuff that some may never have heard of. Dick Tracy, Indiana Jones, ESWAT, (All the) Sonic the Hedgehog, etc.

I'd say get the Sega. Nintendo will probably keep releasing (and has released) it's old NES and SNES games for the Gameboy. Sega however, is unfortunately, gone.

Now, with his very own game: Alien Time Zone

I'd go with SNES. It has more games that are still fun to play than NES does, in other words, they aren't excellent solely on the nostalgy value.

Ubel

I would choose NES. It may be because I never had SNES and some NES games (for example Contra) are just too nostalgic for me. Of course that is just me.
