So, i've noticed the lack of any sort of 3D comp in the Competitions part of the forums.
I propose the following:

-------------------------------------------------
                3D THURSDAY
-------------------------------------------------
*Competitions last one week.
*Competitions begin two weeks after the completion of the previous.
*The host gives a general object, eg. a guitar, or turtle.
*Entrants use a 3D Graphic program (like Anim8or)
*The host selects the best, and they, er, win.

Please tell me whether or not you think this could work.
Cheers,
Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider Fluke

I am not going to say a rude "no!" for this... I don' t have a 3d painting program, but many people does, and an activity for those who like 3d, this might be very interesting.
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Why the two week wait in-between competitions? Also, this doesn't really have a lot to do with adventure games specifically. Why not just have a general illustration or industrial design competition instead? However, I'm kinda liking the idea of a specific 3D comp.

Ubel

We have just scrapped out a lot of competitions a while ago. I personally don't think it's a good idea to add any more competitions than there already are. At least not yet. But the idea isn't bad. Although people DO already use 3d in competitions like background blitz.

Mr Flibble

I don't mean to be facile but I couldn't support it if it were called 3D Thursday.

Otherwise, well it seems like a neat idea, but then again I'm not one of the few 3D modellers who would be able to participate.
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

Da_Elf

i guess there is no way i could complain. nope, not at all :)

Ali

I certainly wouldn't object to a competition like this, but agree that we don't have enough modellers to make it worthwhile.

There's nothing that says entries in the Sprite Jam or Background Blitz can't be 3D. Perhaps it would be better to encourage a wider range of media in the existing contests.

Buckethead

Indeed there aren't enough moddelers here. I would rather have the coloringball then a new compition actually.  :) But the idea is nice!

i'd certainly be in. I'm pathetic at 3d now but imagine what practice will do  :=

Indie Boy

I would be in too, means to start getting to grips with autodesk inventor
I won't use this login.
Try IndieBoy instead

We don't need any more competitions ...

We just went through a pruning process to get rid of the least popular comps and the ones we do have now aren't entered enough and are full of off-topic non-entry posts anyway.

Da_Elf

well. they are right in saying that there doesnt need to be any more contests. just alot more 3d work being done in the current contests.

Domino

Good idea, but i would have to go against it. I agree with Darth on this one, where there were too many competitions going on at once, and a lot of them got overlooked.

I feel bad for the Photoshopping contest. It used to be really popular at one time, but now seems like a dud. I hope it can be resurrected somehow. Maybe DGMacphee will have to take the reigns of it again.

I agree, it hasn't been the same since DG passed it on to some loser to look after...

*Ali coughs and looks around shiftily.*

This is off-topic, but I'd happily pass the Photoshop Contest on to a single individual who wanted to set the topic every week. Perhaps that would give it the boost it needs.

Please discuss in the stickies in the competition board if you have ideas.
Best is if the purpose of your proposed activity isn't already - partially or entirely - covererd by other activities. You can have a background blitz with 3D as a part of the theme.
Colouring ball is basically sprite jam "light"; a shortcut around the initial step of creating a sprite, and beside its, imho, fundamental flaws, it never caught much attention anyway.
In the meantime, participate all you can in the current activities.
