Title: New Competition: Telephone Pictionary
Post by: JudgeDeadd on Mon 10/10/2005 16:22:19
How it works (excerpt from CivFanatics Forums)

First, everyone who want to participate will post in the thread.
1. I will write a sentance:
2. I will PM it to the first person on the list, they will illustrate it and PM it to me
3. I will PM the illustration to the next person on the the list and they will write a caption and PM it to me
4. I will PM the caption to the next on the list, they will illustrate it and PM it to me
5. Steps 3 and 4 will continue until the list is done
6. The results will be displayed for all our amusement
7. A volunteer will start a new game.
Everyone can reply in 24 hours; if they don't, they will be skipped.

What do you think about this?

Sounds fun, people not realising they have a PM could be annoying :P

Actually, I want you to approve it or not, so that it can be in Competitions and Activities.

If you have an idea for a new competition, then post it in the General Discussion forum. It will then be allowed here if it gets approval from the majority of forum members.

It does sound fun, but it also sounds familliar.

It reminds me of the ASKII game, as well as MSPaint game. Of course the ellement of surpize is not there in these two cases, but still ,if you think that MSPaint game has like 80 pages of replies, on would be so ammuzed by reading all this!

Ok. I won't be taking any part, so I don't approve it.

Sorry for that :)

The problem with this sort of idea is, as we found with the short story competition, when people don't reply, and it all kinda breaks down and stops.

Even allowing a 24 hour window, would require you as the organiser to be around the forums every day in order to run the thing, and some people participating wouldn't be around for a few days and might lose their place as a result.

Anyway, it's an interesting idea, I'm just not sure how manageable it is.

I would take part in this, but I'll probably never be here on the weekends, which will lose my spot and hold the game up... sorry.

Hmmm, maybe you guys are right. We could do it like MSPaint game or ASCII game. You know - caption, picture, caption, picture...

Then we might as well just play MSpaint game.  The problem with this idea is, no one will see the previous images since the only place they are is in the PMs.  We couldn't have it on a forum, cause that would kill the whole point of someone making a new picture based on the caption in the previous one.

I participate in a similar game at the Beaver and Steve (a webcomic) forums.  There's a most excellent .php that's been made to manage it all; it works flawlessly.

Perhaps a system like this would work for us, too.

All the players create sentences for their own chains.  You upload sentences and images through the PHP, which automatically PMs the next person in line.  When about a dozen chains are going simultaneously, it's hard to notice brief delays.  The PHP also shows chain statistics, who's next in line, and the completed chains.
