Title: New moderator
Post by: Dualnames on Wed 22/02/2012 02:46:13
Silly topic follows. Congratulations to Snarky on becoming the first moderator of the General Discussion I've seen login the last 6 years. A valued member of this small society and well worth it. I hope he governs this part of the forums with patience and strictness.

A small heads up, brace yourself stupidity is all over the gen-gen. I've made sure of that. m0ds helps a bit.

As for c_leksutin, what can be said that is true and not life threatening? None. And with the memory of the c_leksutin song in my head, by Grundislav, I salute thy sir.

General discussion has a moderator now? Man, this place has changed. Where am I gonna go now to get away from Johnny Lay when I need to lay low for a while?  :=

Congrats Snarky!  Welcome to the club... now you can hang out with the cool kids in the "moderator's" board ;)

Yes, thanks. And thanks CJ for the confidence, and forum maintenance! If any of you need any moderating done, let me know.

I don't expect to start locking threads left and right or anything, but I'll probably want to split threads if they get way off-topic. (For example, in the RIP Whitney Houston thread, I would have split off the discussion of drug/alcohol addiction into a separate thread.)

Good luck, Snarky!
Remember that in AGS, we ban first and give warnings later.

So we can simply call out: "Snarky, do the splits!" if needed?

Congrats Snarky.

Last person to have a thread locked by Snarky is a rotten egg. *starts "Atheists are Homosexual" thread*

Maybe I'll try a thread called "All AGS users are losers"  :=

Good luck Snarky!

Wait, who says c_leksutin ever existed; it might just as well be a urban myth.  :=

I'll be damned if Snarky proves to be anything less than an excellent moderator.

This board is doomed to a future of responsible moderation. Snarky deserves a special cake.

Sorry, but that's my opinion.

Hooray! No longer is this board a lawless land of lawlessness!

Plus, now you have access to all the REDACTED that we keep on REDACTED members.

Congrats man.
Now when is Ashen getting the boot in Beginners Tech and replaced with Khris or somebody who's actually online a lot? Even Scummbuddy doesn't come on very often any more - been over a month for him.

On a side note, I'd be willing to take over the Hints and Tips section. That's a section that's in need of desperate moderating. Multiple threads asking about the same game, misleading or incorrect titles, etc.

I know this is probably wrong, but I think I'd be very much stupid and regretful, have I not said this. So bear with that.

I'd like very much to grab a sit at the Modules section, knowing Scorpiorus has been somewhat absent. It would take a load off the current moderators, strazer and gilbet. I do own the entirety of modules and plugins and programs ever made, that I always provide to whoever requires them. Plus I've even made work of several plugins that possibly a few have to such extent (knowing that may sound too cocky).

I am well aware that everyone thinks I'm a moronic imbecile and well, that's what I'm passing through a lot, but that doesn't mean I don't take responsibility heavily, everyone who has worked with me I believe, has seen the best of me.

I am also aware that this is not, of course, the place and time, and the space is probably not even open, nor even the consideration of opening it, but I'd very much like to get that out. Regardless, if anyone is willing to listen I believe I have some ideas well worth considering to improve the organization and categorization of that section of our forums.

I submit that Snarky is c_leksutin, but in a different guise.  I mean, has anyone ever seen them in the same room together?  Think about it.

Good luck Snarky, I think you will not have any problems with the new job as clear judgement and excellent writing skills are on your side.

I vote yes for Ryan on Hints and Tips, Khris well deserves being a mod in the Beginners and of course Dual seams just right for Modules.

The quality and qualifications for the jobs are there, they all have it, plus dedication and available time for it.

To those of you who want to be moderators, I suggest you get in touch with CJ and let him know that you're volunteering. (Then wait until the next occasion when he has time to deal with AGS stuff.) Worked for me.

..At least I think it did.

My feeling is that each board should have a couple of forum-active moderators, but that's just me.

When I first approached CJ, he suggested to me (and I may be paraphrasing here) that the appointment of new moderators would be something better decided by global moderators, based on their assessment of the situation. Since he's rarely active anymore, and therefore not aware of most of the current day-to-day forum business, spotting problem areas, and such, is something he hasn't got time to properly look into. It was only after I canvased a number of mods that a decision could be made.

I agree, and I raised that same point during my discussion with CJ, Andail, and the other mods I got in touch with.

There has also been discussion on the lack of moderators with global rights, which is something I'd rather see take priority before the filling of any more "vacant" spaces. We lack a reliable number of active (on the boards at least once a day) moderators, so hashing out important forum decisions (as in the situation I outlined above) is much harder then it should be.

Having said that, I'll start a thread on the moderators board to see if we can get the ball rolling.

I don't think each forum needs multiple moderators, that's rather overkill.  I could see a need for more if the forums were out of control or not being managed but there are no crises here to speak of other than a lack of CJ to make the world a happier place.
