Post by: on Sat 08/10/2005 17:57:38
Has anyone seen it? I'm seeing it in about an hour and have mixed expectations - plus its a trilogy! If you have an opinion on this film I'd be greatful to hear it - and hopefully before I go see it, too!! :P

Could you link to something that tells some of us what it, exactly, is?

I'm definately going to see it as soon as I can. It has done better than LotR-trilogy in Russia so I'm very interested in seeing it. Though I probably have to wait for ages until it arrives my town (or maybe not, after all it's BIG and big movies always make it here faster).

Let us know what you think of it after having seen it, m0ds! I'd like to hear some opinions from people who have seen it.

I love how the movie breaths a Russian feel. Very fresh from the Buffy and Angel crap of the last years. The vampires are more human and yet less intrested in the human world. There is alot of "I'm not that strong" and "not my responcebility" on the Light side. The fact that the main character is a drunk loser but still empefice with him proves that this movie is gold. The ending might feel open and wierd, but that's because there will be more sequals. It's at the end that you realize that the true story hasn't even began.

I've been planning to give it ago since I saw a TV trailer.  Then, today, I've found it's in Russian with subtitles.  It makes me kind of dubious.  I think I'll wait a bit and see what all the reviewers are saying first.

I saw the trailer for it tonight and it looked pretty good. I'll be sure to check a few reviews when it seems like coming down here.

WOW... That looks rather epic, I must say. I love vampire movies. Maybe this will be the start of GOOD ones.

I saw this at FrightFest last month, and was pretty impressed.  The storyline is a bit over-complicated, and can be a little hard to follow, but all in all a pretty good movie, and looks the business.

And Iqu, the subs are one of the coolest things I've seen in ages.  They're not normal subs, but animated and 'in character', so that when a character screams "Nooo!" the subs are really big and kind of float off the screem.  Also there's one bit with some blood underwater and the subtitles are blood-red and then they dissolve into the water like blood.

Worth a viewing in my opinion.  ;D

Thanks for the comments! I didn't get to catch any before I went to see it so I was kind of going in blind. My honest opinion is that it was quite good. I found the plot quite intriguing and the execution and use of "the gloom" etc was quite interesting, but often a little confusing. Parts like with the plane confused me and I felt the bit with getting the lady to say, "Im damned!" was a REAL anti-climax. It was quite enjoyable, the sub-titles were...well, nice for subtitles. But that doesn't excuse them from BEING subtitles :P And they still quite distracted me from the main imagery. But yes, they had nice touches. Some people didn't enjoy it and walked out. There were a couple of good shocks. I know others will love it for what it is, and there were quite a few parts I really liked. I'd give it 5/10. I just wasn't drawn in to it.

Dubbing wouldn't do it justice.
I still morn everyday that they translated Mad Jack the Pirate and Eek the Cat to Dutch. It has become unwatcheble.

Yep it was a nice film, but the book was better :)
Too bad its not been translated to English.
All i can say about subtitles stuff that some hollywood company(don't know what exactly) bought rights to make their own version of Night Watch. So i think next year you'll see all-new USA version of this film  :)
