Hi!

Just wondered if anyone else has encountered and overcome the following problem:
When I play Win 95/98 games, such as Master of Orion II or Dungeon Keeper, they run in compatibility mode, but the mouse cursor takes ages to react on an input.
Any ideas what I could do?

Thanks!

I'm assuming your referring to running older games like that on an XP system?
Try the Compatibility Mode set for "Windows 2000", or one of the other compatbility mode options, as sometimes (not always though) that can improve the performance of older games that seem sticky to run in 95/98 mode.

Yes, I'm running an XP System, sorry...
Unfortunately I've already tried out all other compatibility modes and none has worked (would have been a bit too easy, wouldn't it? ;))
Thanks for your quick reply, anyway!

Somwhere I read about a 'compatibility wizard'. I assume that this is just what I used?

"Compatibility Wizard" can help walk you through you to select the program to run in certain windows mode, color settings, disable themes, etc..

Best way I found to Run the compatibilty wizard (though there's probably a shorter way), is, go to your computer's desktop and click on a blank spot to take the focus off of any other program.

Press "f1" key to bring up the Windoze "Help and Supprt Center" box.
(Alternatively, you could choose "Start" then "Help and Support".)

Under "Pick a topic" select where it reads something like "Music, Videos, Games...",
On the next screen on the left side click on "Games", then select "Fixing a games problem".Ã,  On the right-side menu, select "Getting older programs to run on XP", on the next page that open up you should find a link to start the Wizard "Start the Program Compatibility Wizard".Ã,  Now, just walk-through the choices, select your program, various modes, etc... and after some trial and error, testing, etc.. you may get lucky and find a combination of options that give your program a good performance.

Good luck.

It's basically the same thig you get when you select "Properties" after right clicking on the program. Again, I tried all possible modes but none worked...
I guess it's rather a problem of my mouse driver than of WinXP itself... I guess I'll have a look in that direction then...
Thanks anyway

Master of Orion II is notoriously buggy under XP and 2000. Your best bet for running it flawlessly is running the DOS exe through DOSBox.
