Title: NTL technical problems
Post by: ManicMatt on Mon 22/05/2006 22:44:24
Is anyone else having technical problems tonight who has NTL for their internet provider? (You poor, poor people)

I'm not sure but certain web pages are not loading up (Page not available) or they don't have all the images load up (with an "X" like a broken link) or even most of the design missing (Like looking at a site with webTV or a mobile phone).

What I'm not sure about is whether it is the problem NTL's engineers have posted or it's something else..

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem, which would put my mind at ease to know it's not my IE that's gone kaput.

NTL put this:

"ntl broadband customers maybe experiencing slow/intermittent webpage browsing due to a network fault. We are working to resolve this fault as quickly as possible. We apologise for any convenience caused."

The mostly rubbish broadband medic that NTL offers tells me there is no internet connection problem but it's the actual internet explorer. Is it talking out of it's AI arse?

Now this may be WAY off, but seeing as it sounds like the problem I once had, check and see if "Generic Host Process" is running properly and has full internet access through your firewall. Its one of the Windows services that runs in the background through the SVCHOST.EXE process. I fiddled around with services.msc and disabled things that I shouldn't have, because I'm a nosy idiot, and things went a little b0rked. It took me ages to realize why some web sites weren't loading and why little red 'x's were everywhere.

Like I said, I may be WAY off here.

EDIT: ACHTUNG! Fiddling around inside Windows can be dangerous! I accept NO responsibility!!!

HANDE HOCH! After all that hassle it seems to be working again. Still, it made me remember to clean up my hard drive and defrag it.

You're suffering what I like to call the backlash - basically, NTL should never have dug up all our streets! Bastards!!!!

:P

The tarmac they put down in my street is all spongy and soft. It'd come off in one piece if you picked at one of the many loose corners. And its been like that for six years.
