We all know OneDollar and his funny little avatar, but the man did the deed of deeds and solved a most fiendish problem for me. With one sentence, he changed the way I percieve the world (in frames per second), made a dozen game totally playable for me and reminded me of the age-old fact that sometimes, you don't see the wood for all the trees.
See here. One sentence:
"Also, did you try disabling your onboard card in the BIOS?"
I would not have thought of that.
I hereby want to establish the MAN AND LEGEND THREAD, where peeps can praise peeps for being AWESMOE, RAD, or simple TEH MAN/WOMAN.
OneDollar, here's to you!
No problem, may all your games be rendered speedily :)
I'd say Ghost because his kind words on a PM were the most kind words I ever read.
Thanks for that...(it's enough of a reason)
Courtland Leksutin, for monitoring people here for so long and when he took action you probably won't live to realise it.
SpacePirateCaine for helping me even although he didnt know me. I just sent him an IM and he started teaching me drawing in pixel art. Thank you once again for your kindness :)
Boyd is rather awesmoe for shouldering the burden of Stickens

Also Ghost for sending a very respectful PM, which back then made my day, my whole week actually! And coffee lady (can't remember current nickname) for exchanging such lengthy PMs and helping out each other! :-[
Kudos to all of you! Hope I'm not forgetting anyone, but I'm sure I am! ;D
Ghost & Boyd, because the give love to the whole world.

I would like to thank you.

(small voice) yes- I remembered that a few minutes after I posted. Sorry. Maybe we can merge them?
Still, it's nice having a totally positive thread again.
*And* amazing FarCry framerates.
I thought this was, you pick one forum member who you consider a living legend..and all. That's why I only picked Ghost. I appreciate many members around here..
Well to start back(in no particular order):
Ghost, for writting down the best pm I got.
Bicilotti, because I'd have the honour to mention him first.
Leon, for being such a cool guy.
IndieBoy, for I always enjoyed the discussions we have and for introducing me to RED DWARF
ProgZMax, for helping me once without asking nothing.
Cyrus, for being always supportive on me..
Auriond, for having to put up with my delays
SSH, for giving me a shout to blog in his blog.
RickJ, for being the man, I'd always respect around here...
Babar, for being one hell of a funny guy..
All the mods, for having to put up with me..
I can't be a living legend, mate. Ghost, get it ;D
No, seriously, if this thread is a problem, I am really all for pruning/merging it. I have posted with the enthusiasm of a child with a new toy (okay, a SUPER new toy. Like, all Transformers rolled into one, sort of), and might've off-shot a bit.
While the thread's fate hangs in the balance, I'll say Kudos to Klaus for running MAGS for the last ages, and respect to KhrisMUC, Gilbert, RickJ, GarageGothic... and all the many other people who regularly hang around the Beginner's and Technical forums answering questions 5 minutes after they've been posted.
Btw, is the other thread you're talking about this one (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=34273.0), because I thought that was about AGSers who are your friends, and this is about AGSers you think are rad?
Everyone who taught me how to draw. Mostly ProgZmax, Krysis and Mashpotato. And Andial. And Loominous. And... wow, there have been a lot of you guys!
Everyone who taught me how to script. Mostly Paolo and Ghost.
Everyone who has added music and sound to my games. That would be you, Pfaller brothers.
The people that spend hours testing for me and giving great advice. Mostly Ghost, Bicilotti and Sebastian, but also Pittiz and possibly soon to be others ;).
Chris Jones. Obviously.
The nice people who talk/have talked to me in MSN/Tokbox/Stickam/IRC/PMs.
The people that say nice things about my games ;).
And lots of other awesome people (this whole community basically).
I'd like to add Neole - for still hosting that upload space and for making 2Dadventure.com ages ago.
Also Ben and Sebastian for teaming up with me and Jens, Stalwart and Miez for their DeluxePaint / Pixel Art tutorials.

(hope's I'm not beating a dead thread)
Well gosh, gee golly ;)
Someone remembered me after all this time I been lost in another dimension?
Life's been a crazy ride for me these past few years. I sorta disappeared from the AGS scene for a long time now it seems. Apologies all for going AWOL for so long. Life got in the way of life for a while there.
Was thinking of perhaps coming back to be an active member here in the AGS community again if any of yas wanted an old-timer like me hanging around. Perhaps I'll dust off an old project or two, or even start on something new, though I'd probably need to re-teach myself how to use the AGS engine again (so many new updates and buzzes and whistles added to it since I used it).
Anyways, thanks for the kind words Nick and keeping me in mind. I extend my sincere appreciation and friendship to you.
I still think fondly of the AGS community and the good memories I had here.
Quote from: Barbarian on Thu 14/05/2009 08:41:11I still think of fondling the AGS community for all the memories I had here.
Wait...what? :P
Welcome back, it's been a while.

Heheh. :D Yes, there were a few members I remember that I'd like to be "fondling".
Better not mention any names, otherwise I might get the smak-down put on me.
But hey, thanx for the welcome back.
Welcome back Barbarian!!!
What happened to that movie with Jackie Chan you were supposed to be in?
It has been a long time, please refresh my memory.
Good to see you back on the forums again.

ESCAPE FROM EVERGREEN FOREST SEQUEL PLZ. *puppy eyes, whine whine*
Domino: Thanks for the welcome back. Yeah, the Jackie Chan gig... they wanted me to do a fight scene with JC. But Hong Kong film production is often fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants in which a loose script is slapped together and they constantly were changing schedules, locations, actors, and the script.
So, they delayed my rehearsals a few times due to scheduling changes and such... they kept saying "We still want you.". But then a couple days before I was due to go for the next rehearsal date they had set-up, I was told "Well, the story's been changed now, so we might not need you anymore". So, that was that. That's the movie-biz for ya. I guess the movie was a real dud anyways.
However, I did have a couple of bit parts in a couple other movies, and I did a bit of fight-choreography and fight-scenes too in a couple of movie projects. But alas, I guess I wasn't meant to be some famous movie-star (yet). But who know, maybe in future I'll have another opportunity. But then again, I'm getting to be an "old man" now ;)
MoodyBlues: Well, don't know if I'll ever do an EFEF sequal. That was my first AGS game I made, and fairly crudely made in parts. Still, I hope some people out there enjoyed it.
I did have another old project I may dust off though, or even soon put it out as is, as I did put a lot of work into it and what I did have was still playable for about 30 - 45 mins I guess to go through. "Rise from the Abyss" - sort of an expanded version of my little "The Elevator" game, more of a survival-horror Resident Evil-ish type of feel about it I was trying for. If enough people seem interested, I may try to dust it off, add a few new things to it and release it.. or heck, maybe wait for the next "Release Anything" day.
Happy Thanksgiving ;D
Seriously though, I'd like to thank:
Dave Gilbert - Your Games are Amazing, and well worth the hole in my pocket.
Darth Mandarb - For being the most patient mod on the planet. I remember a couple of times I've broken the rules in my time, asI'm sure most of you have, and he doesnt treat you like a dick (although you probably are).
Progzmax - An artist if ever I knew one. I really enjoyed Mind's Eye, and got round to playing Limey Lizard a few weeks ago (although havent got round to finishing it)
Grundislav - Ben Jordan.
The Ivy - I really enjoyed Spooks, even though the first thing that came to mind when i clicked on its completed game announcement all that time ago was the brilliant bbc tv series that it has no relation to whatsoever. Little Girl in Underland was strange and different, Nanobots was awesome, I enjoyed both also.
CJ - Because this whole community is redundant without his hard work
Sektor13 - I played his stargate adventure and enjoyed it until i got stuck/ there was a bug (i cant remember which). I still desperately want to play his other 2 games, although I feel the filesize indicate something to do when i have more time on my hands.
Bernie - I loved Reactor 09
Iceman - For Da New Guys, The 3D Video, and DNG2, whichI'm sure one day he'll get round to finishing.
And to OneDollare / 66p at the time of writing - for making the excellent Breakdown, whose only annoying factor was that the game ad to finish
And just becauseI'm getting tired trying to remember the other games I really enjoyed over the years andI'm sure there are, I'd like to thank all of you for putting up with my bullshit, and providing me with an interesting community, which is why I have never really left.
Oh, I love just too many people in this community.
But right now, Dualnames is my numbah one. Very supportive and helpful to me as of late.
~Trent
TerranRich, for creating the predecessor to the Beginners' FAQ. ;)
Don!!!!
SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU HERE AGAIN! :o I just hope you'll have time to stick around a little bit... :) I have also stoped posting too much, but I'm still keeping in touch as much as possible and have the AGS forums my homepage actually! :=
