Online Linux 'Demonstration'

Hey All,

I wanted to know if anyone found a, well... something like this www.workspot.net it is a linux desktop demo but you have to pay to use it for more than ten minutes. Did anyone else find anything like this only more than ten minutes? Thanks

I don't understand?? Do you just wanna know more about Linux??? If your just interested to know about it (and this may not be the case) Theres a great Distro free called Knopixx You can download and burn the iso to a cd and run Linux right from the cd (as long as you can boot from cdrom) This will not right anything to your existing hard drive and lets you freely tryout Linux.... Great for system admin. and also makes for a great Linux Box with no HD!!!

On another note....

I am an aviding gamer of Americas Army Ops and I run it under Red Linux 9 w/ open gl support runs so much smoother than on any windows system! Oh and Army Ops is a free 3D shooter developed by the US military!! (probally the wrong place to mention I play 3D shooters

)

Oh and Pepsi kicks Ass I consume a cube a day! lol i.e. 24pk

Sweet, you sound like my kinda guy...lol. I play Americas Army (well, kinda I got all 30 targets on the beginning course but it wouldn't let me move on, so I just get better and better at sharp-shooting) I grew up with Wolf 3D and Blake Stone.

Thanks for the linux distro idea, I LOVE LINUX!!!! But I never have time to delete Windows

I am this week, though, going to put Fedora Core 1 on it. In case you didn't know its the newest red hat and its free to download. fedora.redhat.com

I use fedora.. And I must say, DUAL BOOT.. Don't completely get rid of Windows.. Cause you'll need it if you want to play DirectX games or USE AGS

But Fedora IS great.. and FREE.. It's wonderful. I'm on it right now. So if you have any questions, PM me. I can help you do most basic n00bie stuff.

Actually, I have a Compaq Armada 1750 series (no way to dual doot, thought of that) But I only have one game on here (Age Of Empires) and I can handle VM-Ware which I will run from Fedora with Windows on it... even though I have a passionate hatred for Windows!

Hey, I had to settle for Red Hat 8.0, Fedora would only go into the install in text mode and wouldn't detect the CD drive.

Now, just one more question... do you know where to get already compiled programs for RH?

umm.. I dunno if yum will work on RH8..

Not much support for RH8 or 9.. But google up on yum or apt-get. There should be some info on that.

also google for RPM Repositories.. That'll get you places.

I'm thinking of instaling linux at home, you know to mess around with and yeah. We use it a bit at uni, but I was wondering what version of stuff I would want. I would be dual booting of course. I've heard of red hat, Knopixx, fedora, etc but I'm not sure what they all mean, and which is the best OS thingy. yeah.

Well, I would recommend a Red Hat product. Fedora would be my choice, but that's a personal preference. Even Now, I'm Trying To Upgrade RH8 to Fedora. So, If I were you, I'd take Fedora.

Also, Fedora is free...if you just want to mess around with it you may as well save yourself 50 bucks.

Yes.. Fedora is your best bet.. But if you don't want to muck up your HD, try Knoppix, which runs straight from the CD.

I'm currently not using Fedora as it farked up my HD for the last time. (My fault) But once I get a second computer... Fedora, here I come!.

Now (in my last post I said I was trying to upgrade) my system will boot the CD but wont go into gfx mode and wont install in text mode. *kicks computer* The CD I mean is Fedora of course...

Nah, not necessarily. I had a lot of trouble installing Fedora on my 2GHz P4 machine. I found out the solution by writing down the exact error message then inputing it into Google. Seems there was a simple bypass for my problem...

Ah, Guess you're right.. Sometimes the Anaconda installer cannot detect your Gfx Card or Monitor type, and therefore will not run. If you type some commands in the boot screen, you're likely to bypass that.

Other times it's MoBo incompatabilities, and other times it's just bad luck.
