Title: Ordered my XBOX360
Post by: DanClarke on Fri 28/10/2005 19:04:49
After a week of hunting for somewhere that could actually gaurantee me a machine at launch, i found Woolworths offering machines delivered on th launch day. There was a slight catch in that i had to pay for it there and then, but even after being £331.66 lighter, i now have a new xbox360 and project gotham 3 to look forward too :)

I'm toying with the idea of buying one. I dont have the cash now, but i could get it for the launch date. It does look to be set to be a beast of a machine, and xbox live looks awesome.

I am still planning on purchasing one myself, but i was hoping that the Elder Scrolls IV would be available as a launch title.  But it turns out it won't be released until December (according to Game Crazy here in the US). I am really looking forward to ES4, but i guess i can wait just a tad bit longer.

Also, having seen screen shots of the Xbox360, i'm not overly impressed. There doesn't seem to be a big enough graphical leap from the current consoles to the next gen of consoles. I guess in time, and after the developers have had time to learn the ropes of the hardware, i'm guessing games will look and play incredibly.

XBox 360 (a rediculous name) has HD support ... I have a big HDTV!  So I was toying with getting one (or the Playstation 3 which has dual HD outputs).  I have hooked up a gaming computer to the HDTV and played Half-Life 2, FarCry, HALO, Max Payne 2 and Doom 3 in HD and they look amazing!  (some of them required a download patch to allow the game to run at 1280x720)

They look so good, in fact, that I can't play the old consoles on that TV anymore ... they just look flat.

They are a little pricey though.  The US release is, I believe, around $300 USD.  Although the gaming computer I have hooked up cost me about 10 times that ... so who am I to complain :)

XBox 360
price $400 (the $300 version is useless)
HD resolution 720p
disk format DVD
processor 3 core 3.2GHz PowerPC

PS3
price rumoured to be $400
HD resolution 720p/1080i
disk format Blu-ray (this is the clincher for me)
processor 4.6GHz PowerPC + 8xCell

I think I'll wait.

To paraphrase Homer Simpson: Why do they have to make new games? Everyone knows that video games attained perfection in 1994 - it's a scientific fact!

;D

And this is me, sitting in front of a comuter looking through my TGC cards...

How times have changed.  ;)
