Blurp, I'm not sure whether to post here or not...

Anyway I'm in need of a midi editing prog, preferably freeware.

I have one that can create midis, but none that can open existing midis and edit those.

Anyone have any idea?

I'm not sure if this does what you want but check this one out if you haven't already

I use Cakewalk Pro Audio, of course, that's not freeware... I'm not quite sure how good a midi-editing program you'll be able to find that's free, but good luck searching!
I make music.

MODplug Tracker not only can edit/create midis, but also formats like MOD, IT etc (which are, as far as I know, like midis with the ability of having your own instrument samples resulting in a high quality sound). You can get it at www.modplug.com and it's FREE.

i'd recommend Skale Tracker over ModPlugTracker, Skale is still in beta but it has a lot of nice features, i haven't tried making midis with it yet but the option to output midi is there, it can also output OGG. http://www.skale.org/

Thanks, I'll try it out

Modplug has the ability to save to mp3 or wav, but I don't remember if you can save to .ogg. But you can still easily convert to ogg through another program

Yay, helpful AGS people.

I'll try out all these programs just now, as I just got back from school and I have some maths to do... bleh.

Anyway cheers guys!

the mp3 output in modplug sucks, it's limited to 96KHz, but then again convert a mod/s3m/xm/it to mp3/ogg makes you scum anyway...

I give you cakewalk of 1992 fame. It's what I use. Apologies, some of my tracks are in there, I was too lazy to sort everything out.

The MP3 output in Modplug depends on the MP3 codec you are using to compress your songs in Modplug. I've copied the LAME encoder to Modplug's directory, so I get some very high quality MP3s out of it.

And also, the only reason I convert some of my own tracks into MP3 is because I use VST plugins and effects that don't work if you play the song in any other player.

Modplug's midi output is not all that great, however, and there is a bug in Modplug which screws up the drum track of your midi when saving.
