Photoshop can manipulate and/or create images.  Imageready can do some of this, but is primarily used for animation.

Both are made by Adobe, both have the ability to save as and to open .psd's.

By putting "image ready" in google, I got some nice results

I use photoshop and image ready, check out my tutorials.

Image Ready is a godsend for me for animation and especially now that AGS has animate gif import.
