Did anyone hear about the terrorists they caught on the planes in London? They were carrying disassembled bombs aboard so they could put them together. They also said that there was a tape made for the suicide bombers for after they bombed. Has anyone heard about this?

Yes I expect almost everyone has heard about it, it has also been mentioned in the Mittens thread, we'll be flying in a few days...
They weren't caught on planes by the way, they were arrested at their homes.

From what i have read, they were concealing some sort of liquid explosive inside of bottle containers, and then used some sort of electrical device to detonate it. I saw tonight on TV that they were using sports drinks bottles half filled with explosives and the other a normal beverage, but they showed an animation using a digital camera to detonate it. It is all over the news right now.

My dad was there, he had gotten onto the plane an hour before the terrorists were even there.
The fediverse needs great indie game developers! Find me there!

I saw this thing on television about this. Load of crap really, I hate watching the news.

But it was still informative. I was about to start a thread, "LONDON ATTAXX!!!" but this thread was already here. Just for the record, the title was a joke about the whole thing.

Personally I don't feel very threatened by things like this. I mean, sure, who knows, maybe it will happen to me. But if it does, I'm not going to have any control over it. I'm not going to change the way I live my life out of fear that I might get blown up. That's what they want. That's letting them win.

But the thing that really sets me off about this is listening to my parents. My stepfather has some very delusional, very idiotic ideas about these type of things. He even went so far as to say that we can blame the events of 9/11 on the UK. He said that "the UK is so f*cking lax...they just let them in." And that pisses me off.

He stereotypes a lot. For example, "All blacks, oh, I'm sorry, that's not politically correct, ethnically challenged are worthless pieces of sh*t that need to quit sucking off this country's welfare system." Well...I don't see how it's "ethnically challenged" for a "black" person to act the way that a black person stereotypically acts. If a black person is acting black, that's not ethnically challenged.

In his "perfect world" we would pretty much be left with Hitler's Aryan race. He also voiced his opinion on "interracial breeding" and said that "You don't see the dog f*cking the cat, or the cat f*cking the bird, stick to your own race!" That got me pretty mad too. White, Black, Asian, Hispanic, Arabic, etc., etc., it doesn't matter. We're all human beings. We're not separate species. Frikkin moron! GAH he makes me so mad.

He goes off on a lot of rants about things like these and I just have to tone him out. Maybe I'm just crazy or something, but it really did make me really mad when he started blaming the UK for every terrorist movement since the '60s (yeah...he really did do that).

As for the terrorists, I've already said that I don't feel threatened. It's not something that I like to think about really because I know there's a lot of people that do die from it. But, if I end up one of them, you can just write me off as another statistic.

And...I guess that's all really.

The only reason it bothers me is that these guys just don't stop. Are we really going to have to stop letting people take planes? Well, at least it was over the ocean too. Im not saying anything bad about the people on the planes but if they had gotten away with this then at least the planes weren't over anything but the water.

Sound like your stepfather prefers that people breed with people as closely related to themselves as possible, monkey. Perhaps thats what his parents did?

It was my understanding, after I read it in the paper, that the plane was headed for the U.S.  That makes me think that they had intended on detonating somewhere over the U.S.
Watch, I just killed this topic...

Becky

There is a suspected plot, that was potentially going to happen sometime in the near future.  The suspects were not caught in the airports, or on planes.  They were arrested in their homes.

Esseb

And unlike what Domino may have heard, they did not detonate anything.

Well, i meant that was their plan. I had seen something on CNN on how they were to detonate liquid explosives. I didn't mean that they did. Sorry for the confusion.

Esseb

No, Farlander. I did not say, or imply, that.

Nacho

Ok... Because I felt some smell of "hey! they haven't actually done anything bad!" in this thread...

Sorry for the missunderstood. My fault.

I think this could be close to correct. Ahh...I don't know. His parents share pretty much the same views as he does on interracial relationships (the relations shared between persons of different ethnicities as well as intimate relations; in that all races should act the way your stereotypical blue-collar caucasian male acts regardless of their ethnic and social backgrounds).

It just makes me mad about racism really. My stepfather has been around since I was five but somehow he's failed to impress me with his opinions. People are people, end of story. Skin color means about as much as hair color or eye color. And that's the way I feel. There are times when I act racist in an attempt to satirize it to death...but I always try to make sure people know I'm joking. I make sure they know that I have 3 cousins that are half-Mexican (and for any Hispanics reading this, I do mean Mexican, not Hispanic ;)).

Racism is just stupid in my opinion. The idea that one person is superior to another simply because they have different skin colors is just retarded. And when my stepdad gets started...he just really doesn't know when to quit. I sometimes get the feeling he knows it makes me mad which is why he keeps it up...but then I guess I can't put all the blame on him...

My mom is racist against blacks mostly, and also feels that nobody should have intimate relations outside their own race. But she's not quite as verbose about her opinions as my father. But when she is it can make me just as mad. When my brother (three years older than me) started dating a black girl my mom was furious. When he said it was pretty serious and he thought he might propose I thought she was going to kill him. Once she actually asked me (and this made me a bit mad), "Is David not proud to be white any more?" I didn't answer her. I just blew her off really. It was a stupid question. I don't really see the point in being proud of being any race. Sure, I guess you can be proud in the fact that you are a good example of what a person should be and you are [race here], so that brings up the general opinion of [race]...but...my mom's comment just made me mad.

ANYWAY...Enough about racism. Back on to the topic...

I really liked the way that they could still drink the drinks with the explosives in the bottom. That seemed pretty ingenious...but they let their plans leak before execution...just like they always do in the movies.

Now don't get me wrong...I don't support terrorism here...just...it did seem like a nifty idea. I mean...if I was trying to blow up a plane...I'd go with this idea (pre-10 August '06). Not that I would...ever...do....that...... ;)

SSH

Apparently, the movie Snakes on a Plane has been affected by this, as Sam Jackson wasn't allowed to take any snakes on the plane as hand baggage under the new security regulations.

I don't know about EEEEEVIIIIIIL. But the fact is that they didn't hurt anybody and were apprehended before going through with their plan. This makes them possibly guilty of nothing more than planning, Farlander.

Not in the spanish code, which everything is judged in the same way, no matter if it's accomplished or not. ^_^

Actually, you are judged for "tentative of X" and there's a final note in the procecution auto (or whatever is called) when briefly explains if the tentative has been archieved or not...

I know it might sound weird, but what it's put on trial is the intention. Actually the penalty of stealing a chicken is the same that if you are a "ocean's eleven wanabee" burglar who steals 100,000,000 Euros, because our code assumes that this guy stealing a chicken would have stolen 100,000,000 euros (If he had the opportunity)

The final result is that the guy who steals the chicken has no money to pay good lawyers, and goes to prison, whereas the rich burglar evades it...  >:(

It might sound weird, but it terrific for philosophical discussions...  ;D

It's good then that I intend to kill you at Mittens and I can tell you this now, in Greece, where such retarded laws of trying intention do not exist.

Better get ready.

You should try not to show your plans while you are here, Helm!
