Ok, heres the deal, I REALLY want to get a scanner, thus making work on the Darksiders more easy, (scanning in nice hand drawn pics, then making them into Graphics by easy tracing over etc).  But my parents aren't sure, I need to convince them.  This may seem like a really stupid request, but can you guys just post saying how much use a scanner is.  I show the thread to my parents and BAM, it will help sway them...

Well, a scanner can be used for alot of things,  not just for scanning in drawings, but also for preserving pictures and documents incase the real ones get destroyed. You could almost see it as a backup utility.

Mr Jake

yup, and it can also allow you to include hand drawn or cut-out picture in your work to make any reports you have to right look more 'proffessional'

P.S: I also hope to be getting a scanner/printer combo >:)

First thing, scanners are 'cheap as chips' these days, so you can get one for a bargain. And as for usefulness- I have to do a lot of reading for my uni course, and it saves me soooo much money on photocopying having a scanner. I get my books out overnight from the short loans library, and scan them into my computer, and print them out if I need to. Plus I like to scan in sketches of backgrounds and things to use as a framework for the finished artwork. Trust me, a scanner is worth the money.

Woot, did you get it, Cluey? I also asked for a scanner this Christmas and my parents bought me one online from PC WORLD for less than £40! It's a Xerox and's brilliant. I also got a cheapy tablet thing from GAME too.

:)

I'll probably get myself a scanner.

In a few years.

I saw a multi Fax-Scanner-Printer-Copy Machine thingy once, to around £40. I hit myself everyday for not buying it.

Scanners are awesome for making copies of traditional-style (non-didgital) photographs and as a way to turn them into a digitized file format (such as .jpg) thus making it easy to email it to family & friends.  Scanners is a great way to improve your artistic, handdrawn artwork,  skills with using programs such as photoshop, scan in your handdrawn artwork.  Scanners also can double as a conveinant "photo-copier" of sorts.
Yes, they're fairly cheep nowadays too. You can get a decent quailty one for a resonable price.
